APS VPL is a dumpster fire

Look around you. It's heading our way. SC is now the hot spot. Kentucky, WV are bad too.

What?!? Is it a storm?!?

You should get vaccinated if you’re worried about covid. There are 3 vaccines available for months now. You will be exposed to it repeatedly for the rest of your life as it is endemic.

And I wouldn’t worry about kids under 12. There at less risk than vaccinated 35 year olds.

What is your end goal? Zero COVID?

COVID isn't going away. The vaccine is a non-sterilizing vaccine and the virus has animal reservoirs. If 100% of people get vaccinated, then it will still be here and spreading.

Again, what is your end goal? Masks forever?

I'll choose Sweden and the UK, with life returning to normal and accepting a number of deaths just as we do with everyday life, like with cars, the flu and swimming pools. At this point, all people who are at risk have had the chance to be vaccinated.

so you're just good with the number of deaths and hospitalizations we have now? and hospitals overwhelmed, people avoiding ERs so they don't get exposed, elective surgeries pushed off and HCWs burned out and quitting?

Can you show me where hospitals are overwhelmed locally? Check out the HHS portal - there are none. If people are avoiding ERs here, they’re listening to misinformation you’re spreading, which is causing harm.

We have one of the highest vaccination rates in the country. You’re essentially saying vaccines don’t work. I’m sick of these COVID Doomers who are anti-vaxxers.

The virus is not going away. It’s either get vaccinated, get covid or lock yourself in your house the rest of your life (and work on your stationery business and posting about HEPA filters).

I think the state should intervene if our local elected officials (ie the School Board) are not going to do anything. Maybe some kids can go to Virtual Virginia.

They're not pulling the extra staffing out of thin air. They supposedly have 3rd party providers and subs, but something seriously went wrong with the subs last week (probably not enough subs).

Hearing tons of complaints and defenses about the birth of the program. Would love to hear someone who is a proponent of “VLP with everyone eligible” give a solution to the current situation.

Virtual Virginia seems like an easy solution to the current predicament, which could be coordinated with the state. Duran is on the state board of superintendents. I’m sure it’d just take him a few phone calls.

I think you're living in June 2021.

See, eg Israel. Highly vaccinated, had horrid time with Delta.

Where is this even coming from? I don't recall a debate in APS about who the virtual program would be offered to. It was always going to be offered to whoever wanted in.

But thanks for trying to kick some of us out cuz we don't meet YOUR criteria and booting us off to Virtual VA where my special needs kid would be screwed out of IEP services.

Yes, the vast majority of people got breakthrough infections got the equivalent of a cold (if they were even symptomatic at all). The vaccines worked very well. Interesting to see COVID doomers now claiming vaccines don't work.

Elderly and obese people did have a few issues (just as they did with COVID pre-vaccine).

I guess you don't have kids under 12. Some of us do.

This is misinformation. They would still get IEP services from their local school (just like if they attended a private school and got ISP services).
https://www.virtualvirginia.org/wp-content/uploads/2021/04/VVA-Parent-Guardian-Info-21-22-Supporting-Personalized-Learning.pdf

Also, there is a significant lack of teachers right now in APS' virtual program and they are using Virtual Virginia as a 3rd party provider. Let's cut out the (non-functioning) APS middle man.

It's not misinformation.

My friend tried VV with an IEP kid. Didn't work at all.

Explain how you get services from your home school if you have dyslexia and get your English class through VV please.

It's obv you don't care about sped kids.

I do. They are at less risk of COVID than the flu or riding in a car. They're at less risk than a vaccinated 35 year old - meaning, they're at less risk of COVID unvaccinated than both of their vaccinated parents.

We don't mask except where legally required. We enjoy indoor dining all of the time. After seeing the energy of the crowd at the college football this weekend, we're going to make a game this fall too.

Most people have returned to normal life, just like we do for other endemic viruses.

The link I provided from Virtual Virginia is very detailed about all of the accommodations they offer. Plus, the home school will be assisting as well.

How does APS help out all virtual SPED kids when the have 17 open virtual PED positions on their Careers website?

Anyone who supported closing schools last year didn't care at all about SPED kids (for instance, Lunch Petitioner).

+1000

DH and I make it our personal mission to normalize being maskless in Arlington. So satisfying when you see masked people see you or your kids maskless, then you later see them without a mask.

The purpose of vaccinating adults was to return to normal. The UK doesn’t even vaccinate 12-15 year old because they’re at such low risk.
