After This Last School Year, Is Anyone Leaving for Private?

That's so odd because ours is way up over last year.

How's the income level at your ES? Our ES pulls from a very wealthy district (99% SFHs, all $800k-$2mln) so the parents generally can afford to move to private if they want to. I think that's why we're down to 2 classes per grade this coming year.

Our school is the exact opposite. We're about 20% over capacity to begin with but right now and people are coming back by the droves. Not sure we have room for all the new students. I'm hopping more of the people who are unhappy no matter what MCPS does stay private. They're a drain on the system anyway.

Good point. Our school is also struggling to make two kindergarten classes. Many of our high income neighbors are going private. It's a really good public elementary school but I don't think people want to risk it.

I have a high school child. Any younger and we would have left MCPS. We looked at privates as an option but the switch is not simple for high school students. For example, the curriculum doesn’t align so students have gaps in some areas and have already taken courses in others.

As we approached middle school for our oldest and Kindergarten for our littlest, we thought it was a good time to move to a school with better student/teacher ratios. My son's doing some summer classes in person at the school over the summer and loves the way they teach and the individual attention. So hopefully, his tenure there will be the same!

Bully for you!

Geez can’t you be happy for another person.

I thought they were expressing their approval and congratulations! Sure, MCPS has options for kids who can handle it that outperform any private but most kids aren't strong enough academically to make it into those programs so privates are a good option for them.
