Here, fixed it for you: Kadera = knows how to actually get stuff done Turner = screaming at teachers and angry bro dads |
I'm PP above and you lost me on the Kadera "knows how to actually get stuff done" argument because of her stupid drawing of desks spaced in a classroom that wasn't spaced right. She's also released a lot of sloppy analysis plans of various issues, all of which is supposed to demonstrate her competence to me. It's had the opposite effect. In contrast, I am on-board with Turner's argument that she understands that the role of a school board member is to ask hard questions to make sure staff's work is competent. |
Turner doesn't even know what questions to ask. All she and her group know how to do is scream that teachers are lazy. Was Miranda effective in getting any results. Nope. |

I’m all for more people participating in the Democratic. I’m not for White women co-opting Black voices to stir drama. |
+1,000 |
More like: Kadera = status quo Turner = attempted accountability |
DP - It is NOT against the rules for non-Democrats to vote in the ACDC democratic open school board caucus. Voters do not register by party in Virginia. It is also NOT against the rules for a candidate to encourage any voter of any background (what do they do? ask if they're republican or democrat before they talk to them when they're campaigning?) to vote in an open caucus. |
Naive NP here: I sincerely don't understand why it's an issue for a white person to use a quote, crediting it to the proper (Black) person, in a sincere (though childish) way of making her point. MK's point was taking the high road when others take the low road. I really do not believe Michelle Obama would object to her use of her image and quote in that context. |
I think one larger issue, as someone who has consistently backed Dem candidates, is that it is silly for the Dems to get into these local races in this way. The caucus is a bad idea. This would have been a chance to get rid of it and change to either just straight-up voting (marginally better idea) or to allowing the SB race to proceed as a non-partisan race. In Arlington, you are not going to have some staunch right-winger win the SB race even if it's non-partisan.
I am not a registered Democrat and never have been. It's not required or expected of me as a Virginia voter for the last 20 years. I found the language at the start of the caucus voting off-putting and reeking of some kind of purity pledge. FWIW I'm largely a socialist. |
Again, if you are going to hold Turner responsible for everything said by APE supporters you also have to hold Kadera responsible for everything said by the anti-school moves coalition last year. |
As a fellow lefty/socialist, I couldn't agree more! We ought to welcome more nuance and debate into these elections. The Arlington Dems are blocking progressive discourse and leaving us with these uninspiring candidates. Their lack of leadership experience is seriously concerning. Shame on both of them for avoiding substantive issues and instead shifting focus to nonsense like online voting. Arlington might be solidly blue, but we have so much inequity deeply embedded in our public schools. I'm really hoping for another option this fall. |
DP. It’s true that neither denounced bad behavior from their groups - assuming McCrazy was part of McKinley’s PTA efforts. |
I don't think you appreciate how posts like this come across to undecided voters. |
It’s not. PP is trying to liken it to using a Meme of a POC to be funny. Not the same thing to tweet an actual quote and picture of the former First Lady as it is to tweet a GIF or Meme of a POC to make a joke or as a “reaction.” And I don’t think she’s stirring drama. I do think there are a bunch of angry bro Dads who have gone low, and continue to go low, even in print Op Eds. It’s fine to believe APS has made and continues to make mistakes. Calling it’s leaders lazy, dumb, malicious, thuggish, etc., is uncalled for and “low.” |
