As much as people say the Royal Family is not political, they are wrong. The Royal Family is not partisan but they are very much political. The Queen signs our laws. The entire fabric of society and the political sphere would be impacted and the argument for them is always stronger than the argument against (think: money). It's just not worth it to argue about, I promise.

Yes, thank you for your perspective which backs up what I posted previously. The UK will go from a Queen as the constitutional monarch to the a King as the constitutional monarch. The Meghan stans are somehow under the mistaken impression that she took them all down.

The monarchy has been whittled away over the decades. This is just exacerbating more. There's no more Empress of India for a reason. The Queen's father was HIM. She's just HM. His Imperial Majesty/Her Majesty. Her son might just be 'His Highness'.

Closer to home - Scotland is about to leave because of Brexit and Northern Ireland is pissed off for the same reason. Farther afield, what exactly does a foreign monarch who hasn't left the country in 5 years and her younger counterparts in 2 - do for countries like Australia and Canada?

Did you just wake up from the Victorian era? India has been an independent republic since 1947.

Are you dense? The last Emperor of India was the Queen's father. Sucks when your colonial ties are so recent, isn't it?

Are you a moron? I am Indian and was born in free India. The Emperor was largely a figurehead and the revenue was collected by the British government. When India won independence the British government left India and the nominal monarchy ended. The same happened in each British colony as they gained independence.

What a brilliantly incisive, uniquely insightful, well supported, detailed comment!!!!!!

Yes, obviously. That's all you need to know about this thread.

Yeah, I figured. The tone of the colorist comments against Meghan, Duchess of Sussex had a particular caste stench to it.

Isn’t the desire of the Tories to keep the monarch really just a mask to keep in place the low taxes/high wealth on the landed aristocracy? Most of England is owned by a small percentage of people all in the aristocracy. The high taxes in Britain are paid by the non aristocracy entrepreneurs, middle and working class. If the monarchy goes, lord nobody knows your name doesn’t get to keep his subsidized, low to no taxes lands. They would need to pay taxes or sell.

Royalists are so annoying. Sycophants, the lot of them.

Wow so this is what Meghan and her team were working on while Harry was away in the UK. Its incredible how selfish and self absorbshed she is. Topple the monarchy? HA.

If a Vanity Fair article by a woman who can’t stand Meghan is all it takes to topple the BRF then they weren’t long for this world.

It's crazy how Meghan detractors think that literally every piece of news and information (barring the actually crazy conspiracies) that mention Meghan is somehow manufactured straight by Meghan herself. These people genuinely have no idea how the media or PR actually works.

If you think a front page feature article in Vanity Fair that offers analysis, not news, and is extremely biased toward one party in the conflict, JUST happens, then it's you who has no idea.

The first few paragraphs of the article are pure cringe:

BEFORE SHE WAS Her Royal Highness the Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle referred to herself as “Rango’s mermaid.” The phrase comes from French-Cuban writer Anaïs Nin’s autobiographical novel The Four-Chambered Heart, which Meghan quoted often in her Suits era: “I must be a mermaid, Rango. I have no fear of depths and a great fear of shallow living.”

Oh no a mermaid again. A grown woman comparing herself to a mermaid.

Meghan wanted more than middling cable TV success. Elizabeth Tuke, her publicist from 2014 to 2016, encouraged her to go out for blockbusters. “You could be the next Megan Fox,” Tuke told her. Instead, she embarked on a USO tour to Afghanistan, Spain, Italy, Turkey, and England; traveled to Rwanda to build wells for clean water; and campaigned against menstrual poverty among schoolgirls in India.

She didn't embark on a tour INSTEAD of blockbusters. Blockbusters didn't want her. It's like me saying instead of marrying George Clooney, I went for my dear old husband. The truth is Clooney would never propose!

“She is this superambitious woman,” Tuke added, which shouldn’t be a dirty word. Meghan did press Q&As in her car on the way to set at four in the morning and affirmed her respect for Tuke’s role in their written agreement, with language that declared Meghan would “never minimize me as a person or my prowess in the field.”

You think this information JUST came up? Like in a journalistic investigation? Or was it that Meghan's people likely marshaled her up?

+1

I have worked in PR and this was obvious orchestrated by Meghan's PR camp to send a message to the BRF.

It clearly also speaks to her grand delusions and self importance. The BRF wasn't nice to Megs so they will be obliterated?

Images from Will and Kate's wedding below:

Yep. The British are clearly a people who want their royal family toppled because a D list American actress is annoyed.

You are conflating two different things. Meghan believing she can topple the royal family and actual societal changes endangering their long-term viability. Progressivism is definitely having a moment right now and there is nothing less progressive than one family of white Europeans having a ton of wealth because....???? You also have the fact that the royal family is not popular with younger Britons (under 24). And that at least one former colony elected to leave the commonwealth this year. Meghan did not do any of those things. Meghan’s biggest skill is seizing on larger movements and trends for her own purposes. The reason why her racism claims worked was because the BRF has done a lot to make that quite believable. They have no POC from Commonwealth countries in positions of prominence on their staff. Despite the fact that they clearly don’t only hire Britons (Jason Knauf for example is a random white guy from America). And of course there were all of Philip’s racist gaffes (“slitty eyes” ring a bell), Princess Michael’s blackface brooch and telling a group of African Americans to “go back to the colonies” (revealing herself to be both racist and uneducated).

Yep.

I saw a picture of the Queen and Prince Phillip's staff waving goodbye to his casket. This is the couple that had presided over a Commonwealth of over 50 mostly Brown and Black countries for over 75 years together.

These are the most junior of junior roles. Maid, cook, footman. Doesn't even take into account the people with actual white-collar jobs like private secretary or personal assistant.

I also think it’s telling that monarchy fans have to dig back all the way back to William and Kate’s wedding as an example of their popularity.

That was 10 years ago! Since then Kate and William barely work. They haven’t come close to meeting the hope and optimism of those crowds. Even the birth of the next heir (and a couple spares) wasn’t enough. The discontent surrounding Meghan and Harry’s exit has more to do with general dissatisfaction with the monarchy. Much like the queen is a symbolic figurehead, Harry and Meghan have become human symbols for all that is wrong with the monarchy. The longer William abd Kate cling to the old playbook, the more precarious their position becomes. The queen is beloved. Charles is most certainly not. William is neutral on a good day. After the queen is gone, they’re in for a rude awakening.

This is an uninformed comment. The Queen is the head of a constitutional monarchy. When Charles becomes King, he will be the head of the constitutional monarchy. That is the way their government is set up. William has repeatedly said that his grandmother does not believe in celebrity, that it's all about service, and clearly that's the model he is following. I am happy they don't say much. Hearing Harry and his wife spew out their New Age-y platitudes is really painful.

That is not the model William is following. Its the model Charles was following. William is trying to cut down his engagements to nothing to get off with being lazy.

The Queen has repeatedly shown throughout her reign that she will put in the work involved. Even up to her confinement in Windsor Palace she was outworking her grandson and so was his father.

why do people who dont like Will and Kate keep whining about how they dont work. They seem to have plenty of engagements. Perhaps you are confused because when they first got married they didnt work much because they wanted to ease into the job. it seems to have been a great strategy given that they were able to have three young kids and solidify their relationship. They didnt become suicidal, give oprah interviews and sketch out to california to sign netflix deals because they got overwhelmed by "hitting the ground running"

anyway, this thread is about meghan, who, aside from her stupid and predictable PR dripping funeral wreath details and other sundry stupidities has been blissfully quiet recently.

Thats a list of workload per member.

Why are William and Kate not working more? True freeloaders of the yesteryears! Working is for plebes, I suppose!
And beneath them, no?

This narrative that they aren’t working enough is being pumped by the Sussex team and has been for some time. It’s getting old. Glad they are taking their time and are raising their kids. Hopefully they can stop the dysfunction that produced a Harry or an Andrew.

Placing Harry on the same plane as Andrew is really gross. Says more about you than Harry. There are very few things that should be comparable to sex trafficking and/or pedophilia. Whatever you think of Harry, his actions come nowhere near that. You're sick.

The narrative predates Harry even meeting Meghan.

The complaints that they don’t work started around their first wedding anniversary and have grown since. It’s amazing that you’re trying to blame Meghan for something that started years before she even met Harry. For the past decade William and Kate have been saying they need “time” to transition into their royal roles and will begin working more “soon.”

I’m sorry you’re an idiot who doesn’t understand sentences. Both are dysfunctional people- the reasons why, the extent of dysfunction and a comparison of the two was never discussed or even intimated at.

They weren’t working much at the beginning. They seem to be working plenty now.
