The us club rankings are essentially an RPI. NL 2023 went 9-3 against the number 6 strength of schedule. VLC 2023 went 7-2 against the 44th ranked strength of schedule. The big difference in SOS explains the discrepancy in rankings between NL at 5 and VLC at 20.
The way for VLC to climb the rankings to the extent they care is to increase the SOS in the summer. People think Madlax and Team 91 get special treatment in the rankings, but what is actually happening is that those clubs are good at scheduling tournaments that increase the SOS and they win more than they lose against strong competition. As the US Club rankings become more prominent you’ll see more clubs that are more careful about scheduling. This should over time actually make tournaments better because there is now no incentive to play in a weak tournament that you dominate. Going undefeated against weak competition can end up hurting your ranking more than losing to a quality team the way an RPI works. |
| You have to be on one of the top teams (usually NLF affiliated) to get into top tournaments. That is why club decision is important. |
+1 |
Completely agree. Evaluate any club based on what tournaments they get into and what teams they play once they are in the tournaments. |
| All the crowing about which team is better at certain levels is fine but when kids get into freshman year and the college stuff begins you want to be on a team that is NFL affiliated or so good that they get into the best tournaments. Exposure/film is everything especially against top competition. Better to be on a weaker team but getting into great tournaments. College coaches are not coming after you because of the team you are on but how you look in person or on film. |
| All of the above is good advice, but it all leads to the same conclusion. You should play for ML, NL, DCE, or VLC. And then between those go whatever one is best for that year that you are one of the top 16-18 players that get highlighted. |
Correct. |
| Really thought that DCE 2022 would have more recruits by now given how high the team is ranked. The current batch is certainly impressive, but seems there are really good players in the next tier that should have gotten more looks and offers. Maybe its just really competitive out there. |

It’s a really weird recruiting year for so many reasons. So much uncertainty re budgets, roster composition with extra year granted, inability to see players live in tournaments or prospect days, etc. After the initial push to take the more obvious players off the board, hard to say how it will play out for the next tier of players who’d usually find a spot somewhere. Probably a lot of issues with matching too. E.g., a player of the type that would get an ivy, acc, or big 10 offer weighing whether to accept a nonacademy patriot league offer.
2022 and 2023 classes are going to be odd. 2024 probably also to a lesser extent. Might take until 205 before there is a normal recruiting pattern. But maybe things sort themselves out more quickly than I think. |
You think??? That's really an insensitive and dumb thing to troll with. These young men have worked their tails off and are getting destroyed by pandemic induced issues. Primarily the NCAA who is allowing men to hit the transfer portal and gain years of eligibilty as a make up to the shortened 2020 spring season. NCAA botched it badly. These young men will get crushed. The best have committed but the others will be put through the wringer and many won't be recruited when in previous years they easily would have. Life ain't fair but the NCAA screwed this up big time |
| Agree—colleges are going to be bringing in a smaller 2022 class because of all the transfer and extra year nonsense. It is really hard to get picked up by a D1 school and this year it is even more difficult. |
| NL 2025 looks pretty dominant in HoCo this year. How are the rest of their teams doing versus DCE? |
In the elite divisions, NL 2025 was 6-2 NL 2026 was 0-7 (ouch!) NL 2027 was 5-2 NL 2028 was 2-4 NL 2029 was 4-3 in AAA NL 2030 was 5-2 in AAA |

Prior posts sound about right that NL faring better than DCE/BLC these days then?
Except for 26, what is going on on that team? Glad to see NL continuing to grow and thrive. First time going to their weekly clinics this spring and they have been really great coaching the boys. |

NL seems to be a great program. They have had successful run and do a great job developing players.
Is it normal for them to play players down age groups? We have multiple kids from the 27-31 age group, and watching the 3 programs (BLC, NL, and ML) it seems like NL had older kids play down on teams (we watched the same kids play games in different age brackets), is that standard for DMV programs? |
