Apparently its racist to hire tutors and form pods, we must all suffer equally?

Marxism is def on the March these days. Turn over your assets for redistribution, now!

If forming pods is racist, how is it that the person running the DMV pandemic pods group on FB is black? And how is it that people such as Akilah Richards (who hosts the Raising Free People podcast) have been advocating for this kind of thing for years, as a way for black people to liberate themselves?

There was advice in the NYT article to invite economically disadvantaged students to join your pods. I doubt anyone on DCUM will.

How is anyone supposed to know who the economically disadvantaged kids are? Are they supposed to assume that brown/black = economically disadvantaged?

Like where???

Please name one developed country with more inequality than the U.S.

India

India is not a developed country.

Ok then France.

Education in the US is funded by taxpayers. In Maryland, for example it costs taxpayers about $15,000 per student per year to educate a Maryland child.

So where does the monies that taxpayers are already paying going to? Currently in Maryland education costs around $15,000 per year per student in taxpayer monies.

Elitist not racist, right?

How much? Would you be willing to share your child's tutoring time with another student? I'm trying to work out how I can provide services to low income students.

No to all questions. If you want to do charity, do it on your own dime.

It is elitist not racist if it is anything.

That said, I surely hope that every single person harping OM pods has criticized private schools for years. Pods are people’s effort to scramble and do what they can - especially if both parents work. Private school was a house people already made to self segregate.

Why do you care? You do what you want to do. You can’t control what other people think. I want schools to open full time. You think I’m going to care if some random kid or teachers gets sick? That’s not America. The America I know and love is one where you get what you want and you don’t care about what others think.

Yes. Don't you read the achievement reports?

I’m sick and tired of people using racist in this way. It diminishes the term and it makes it seem that all black ppl or minorities can’t afford pods. That’s wrong to assume since some of us actually can afford to do the same. Some of us are also forming pods! Honestly this whole thing is just so taxing- real racism is being dragged by the KKK in the middle of the night.

Actually no. Racism is systemic, not incidental. Nice try Tucker

The school system is systemically racist for closing schools, creating a situation that leaves black and brown children behind while rich white people shrug their shoulders and advertise for a governess.

Hold your school board accountable.

The benefits of these pods seem way overblown. Most seem to be for childcare and social reasons. I also think with all the parents coming and going they’re actually unsafe compared to regulated childcare settings.

+1 It will be like the carpool from hell. Just the text chains alone will be nightmarish.
