No wonder Trump liked Lutsenko, he was the one who stopped the Manafort prosecutions, after which Ukraine got their first round of javelins. From May 2018:

Trump Inc. podcast has a podcast explaining this whole thing...It's not easy to follow. I don't understand why Trump/Gulini want to help Russia. Russia is not a friend to the US. Am I right? What am i missing?

You are missing that russia loaned him a ton of money because US banks won't bankroll his bankruptcy prone self anymore. They loaned him money for things that are not profitable. Essentially buying him.
