Are there any legitimate reasons why someone would oppose DC statehood?

How large was the sample size? I am a MD resident and I vehemently oppose statehood for DC. I believe DC should be a county within MD as I believe in keeping in line with legal precedent.

Here is a reason not to become part of Maryland. Property taxes. My house in MOCO would see a 50 percent increase in property tax.

I'm sorry that our desire to have the same rights as other Americans may ruin your day. "No taxation without representation" is a fundamental American value. It should not be a partisan issue.

It would be nice if your politicians weren't such freaking hypocrites when it comes to commuter taxes.

The Home Rule law that Congress passed in 1973 is what prevents a commuter tax. If DC was a state that would go away.

DC doesn’t especially need a lot more tax revenue. The problem is that bowser and her buddies waste so much on worthless consulting arrangements and unqualified “8a” crony contractors

Are you suggesting that the reasons of the founding fathers remain valid? That giving DC residents Congressional representation would give them too much power?

That seems like a good reason to me. I like the idea of the nation's capital being located in a neutral territory. Why should it be a state? Do we need another state? If we really want to make it a state, wouldn't it make the most sense just to annex it back to Maryland, which donated the land in the first place?

+100

Exactly. I think a tiny sliver of Capitol Hill should remain neutral, but much less land than now. Virginia took back their land, so the precedent is there.

She’s corrupt and stupid. Not a good combination in a chief executive.

I've only voted D in my entire life. No I don't think DC should be a state. Want to live in a state, pick one.

It's the Federal District. That is all.

How would it be any different than now? She is effectively a Governor.
