They were sincere liberals who really wanted to do their part to improve Baltimore. The townhouse was cheap and they spent years and years trying to improve it with blood, sweat, and tears.
I visited more than once, but I do recall on one occasion being in the little yard in the back and seeing a very large rat run along the fence. It was disgusting. I had my two small children with me, and was just horrified.

This couple worked hard on this place and were true believers in helping people. They put their young kids in the local schools and worked hard to improve things. When the kids got to be around 10 or 12, they threw in the towel and moved to one of the areas on the edge of Baltimore. They did this with sincere regret that the venture was not a success. I think they spent about 20 years on this place.

They were not trying to "gentrify" the area. They just wanted to make it better. Maybe, they helped a few people, but it did not work. Their townhouse was one of two or three on the block which was not a total abandoned disaster. They did not have much money, but did the best they could.

My point: Trump was talking about rats--not people. That CNN commentator was way out of line to say otherwise. Baltimore is literally full of rats--one of the worst, according to Orkin.

Thanks for your post.
And, Trump is right. Many parts of Baltimore are hellholes. And, have been for quite some time.
It's ironic that this fact has been stated many times on this forum, but now that Trump has pointed it out, it is an issue.

Why isn't he speaking out about the mice/roach infested White House?

The White House is more than old, and even President Harry S. Truman joked in 1945 that the building remained the "crown jewel of the federal prison system." It has not been renovated fully since the 1950s.

Excuses, excuses.

Until he issues a tweet about his mouse-infested home, hard to take him seriously about his concern for the rats of Baltimore.

Besides, Baltimore is older. So age is no excuse.

Mice and rats are not the same thing.

Okay. So infestations of mice and roaches are fine. Just not rats. That's the Republican party talking point?

And you are in total denial about how Fox News is running this country.

The CNN commentator pretty much said that Trump was talking about black and brown people. Trump was literally talking about actual RATS--rodents.
That is the very definition of FAKE NEWS.

Trump's comments about the Congresswomen were inappropriate.

The tweet about Baltimore and Cummings was factual.

Cummings' little rant the other day about "children sitting in their own feces" was ridiculous. Please, what child in diapers does not sit in his own feces from time to time? Anyone with kids knows that. Especially in the car seat!

Seriously. What human being wants to live in squalid meth-infested rural America?

With a score leaps and bounds over Missouri, you may be surprised to see Washington, D.C., as No. 1. WalletHub also put D.C. as the worst state for drug use and addiction overall, as well as the worst for drug issues and rehab.

LOL

It’s clear opioids have hit D.C. hard — but that’s not the only drug problem the capital’s dealing with. Rehabs.com reports the city saw a huge resurgence of the hallucinogenic drug PCP starting in 2014. And usage is higher in the nation’s capital than any other state in the U.S.

Well Trump is free to leave if he doesn't like it.

Perhaps he'd prefer to go live in some down-on-its-luck rural town in Ohio. Right?

DC is drug infested.

So Trump should leave. What human being would want to live in such a place?

You seem happy with it. Satisfied that DC is a drug infested city with a massive overdose problem?

DC has a large black poverty segment same with Baltimore. Those areas are s^&*holes. No one wants to live there. That's why all the middle class people left decades ago.

I thought Trump got all the AAs great jobs?

And here we have it. Republicans are fine with letting a migrant infant sit in a feces filled diaper for a day or two until a 6 year old finally gets around to changing it for him.

Seriously, wth? We've been told that AA's all love Trump because they all have great jobs now under his administration.

So when can we expect Trump's legislation to provide relief against the rodent infestation of American cities?

Why are you so broken? What about a child sitting in feces for several hours seems okay to you? If I knew you and I knew you were letting your child stew in feces - which, natural or not, is very hard on skin after sitting on it for long periods of time - I would call the authorities for neglect. It is neglectful to let a child sit in his or her own filth, do you not know that?

And Trump was NOT talking about rodents. He talks about brown people and crimes being infestations a lot. https://mobile.twitter.com/File511/status/1155165900045266944

Bernie Sanders agrees with Trump.

Bernie Sanders
@SenSanders
Residents of Baltimore’s poorest boroughs have lifespans shorter than people living under dictatorship in North Korea. That is a disgrace.

The President of the United States of America should not be speaking about our country and its citizens this way.

The way he speaks is malignant--it's indicative of an ill, disregulated mind, and those who excuse and defend the depths to which he has dragged public discourse in this country are his enablers. It is, without question, utterly horrific.

People on both sides makes comments about the documented rodent infestations of NYC, LA etc. (see Pizza Rat)

So, is it a new rule that we can no longer discuss rodent infestations of American cities? Sorry but, it is hard for me to keep up.
