Keith Richards is pickled. Nothing will ever happen to him.

This.

I have vivid memories of doing my algebra homework on the phone with a friend while watching 90210 back in the day. Luke was a babe.

So sad. Gone way too soon.

And it makes me feel old to see the teen idols from my youth dying.

RIP, Luke Perry.

If smoking is the only thing that the pps think causes strokes, they need to start a campaign to end the legal sale of cigarettes. Or stop shaming the dead.

OMG, I thought he was going to be o.k. Shannen Doherty said that she talked to him on the phone a day or so ago? I assumed that meant that he was actually talking but maybe she was talking to him? I don't know but what a sad, untimely death this is.

FWIW, I'm his age (a little older actually) and I also used to smoke during the early 90210 years. Lots of people I knew did. I quit a long time ago, as did most of the other people that I knew.

His neighbors have said that they saw Luke Perry exercising regularly. He may have done something to his back when he was exercising which prompted the surgery. Could a pain reliever have caused this?

This is really sad.

She did say she had been “in contact” - and that she couldn’t talk about it because she would cry and everyone should pray for him. Looking back, that seems pretty ominous.

Wow - you are a special kind of stupid. How old are you? You do realize there was a campaign that significantly reduced smoking in - public places, bars, restaurants, etc? Smoking is a leading contributor to heart disease, lung cancer and many other illnesses?

It's not out of the question to speculate on why someone as young as Luke Perry died. It's not all that uncommon for celebrities to live unhealthy lifestyles. He was known to have smoked, although this article can't verify if he did prior to his death.

I'm sorry this thread got a little off topic to have to educate some people that smoking is bad for your health.

All that aside, I am sorry he died. He was a special part of my youth.

People Magazine now says he never regained consciousness after the massive stroke. Clearly Shannen Doherty did not talk to him, but maybe she spoke to someone in his family and was just trying to be positive.

About the smoking--I don't think this is shaming. In the case of an untimely death, people are legitimately curious about the presence of significant risk factors. Doesn't make his death any less sad.

^Her statement did seem sort of ominous but I thought that maybe she was having a difficult time hearing him not sounding like himself. Aw, this sucks all around. I feel bad for his coworkers and really bad for his family.

Honestly devestated by this in ways I don't understand.

Completely random thought. Did he go to a chiropractor? Apparently neck adjustments are one of biggest causes of strokes in men his age.

Pp here who is such a special kind of stupid that I am old enough to remember people smoking in grocery stores, on airplanes, and in doctors offices. A good friend helped begin the Campaign for Tobacco Free Kids. My education on this matter is solid.

We KNOW why he died - he had a massive stroke. My point is that there are many things that can cause a stroke and I find it distasteful to place blame on the dead person for having smoked at any time in his life (and we know he did smoke in his younger years, as did many people who are now over the age of 50).

I know we are all genuinely curious why he died, since it’s shocking when someone relatively young has a stroke.

Maybe it’s smoking or genetic or high blood pressure, I just wish there wasn’t an air of judgement to it. Like, ‘yep, smoking, that will get ya!’

He was a really awesome guy from what I hear and I think picking apart the cause of stroke somehow reduces who he WAS.

Guys, strokes often happen for no apparent reason. Aneurysm. Undetected holes in the heart leading to clots. Trauma prompting a clot.

It's weird that people think he did something to cause his stroke. Don't you know otherwise healthy people who drop dead because of a heart attack or stroke? Happens to runners and super fit people all the time. There's typically an undetected underlying medical issue, but often it "just happens."

It'd be a whole heck of a lot more interesting to read memories of watching Luke Perry in 90210 or in anything else, than debating whether or not he smoked.

Here, I'll add mine. I hadn't thought about 90210 or Luke Perry or any of the other stars in quite some time, but as a 44 year old woman, I'll say that when I heard of his death, I gasped. What a gut punch. Guess it's the loss of someone who was so familiar from my teen years.

You and I are the same age. I was on the treadmil today when I heard he died. I, like you, gasped. I think I said, “No! Come on!”

So damn sad. I feel heartbroken.

If he quite smoking a long time ago then it's obviously not the proximate cause of his death. If he was still smoking and had never quit then that is more relevant and could very likely have contributed to his early death.

No matter what, it's sad that he lost his life so young. He should have had many more years with us.
