Thanks jsteele. Just needed you to respond to bypass the macro:

To the previous post...questioning my honesty about my work experience based on my reaching a different conclusion than you? I question your open mindedness.

My mom was an impoverished immigrant and there was a huge community in place when she arrived, Saturday school, parents looking out for other peoples kids and still many pathologies and only SOME made it. America today is an alienating and lonely place for those born here today (note suicide rates, drug abuse, school shootings etc)- why do you think it would be better for these current immigrants with zero resources, a lot speaking indigenous tongues (not Spanish), low to no literacy/in demand work skills yet susceptible to ALL the pathologies of poverty? Their parents may THINK their kids are better off here .. I very much disagree they are. Read the totally depressing article in the Post about the child being raised in a trailer by an uncle and video games. Contrast that to the description of his life back home playing on the beach with a kite. The article was supposed to make me draw some sympathetic conclusion, but the conclusion I drew was this child had a happier life, community and long term chance back home. Upon arrival in our somewhat cruel land, these children are very succeptible to drugs, teen oregnancy, school drop out, prostitution and petty crime and induction to gangs. These are not the children of two parent professional families. They are literally scraping by, and in America with little to no network. A better life??

Sure we will get all of our money back because I doubt it will fund enough, but it gets our point across

To whom? Only Trump supporters care about the wall, so your "point" is going to fall on deaf ears. Not even some Rs congress folks care about the wall.

His point is he is stupid because there is already a wall and the vast majority do not enter the country by crossing in the remote desert. You could put The Great Wall across the entire Southern Border (let’s say theoretically because it can’t be done) and we would still have a problem! Trump has duped his supporters and tapped into deep seated bigotry and ignorance!

If you want to stop illegal migration, go after employers and harshly prosecute them. No jobs? No economic incentive to come.

Start with Mar-A-Lago and Bedminster.

This pretty much sums it up. I have done something similar with a similar result.

The wall is a stupid discussion point.

So according to your logic we should tear down existing wall and fencing?

Are you making the argument for them not to come and/or to go back to their home countries?

No you can leave it since it already caused headaches and grief for Nogales (half of which sits on the US side of the border and the other half resides in Sonora Mexico).

There is a significant chunk of people coming across the border. There isnt only one solution to cracking down on illegal immigration. There needs to be a wall AND and entry/exit system designed to track down those who have not left after their alotted time.

There is also something to be said for the fact that we at least actually know who those people are that overstayed visas. There was vetting at some point where the State Department and DHS vetted them, know who they are and where they've come from. In contrast to lord-knows-who is flowing through the southern border undetected and un-vetted. If you were a criminal or terrorist, which method would you take? Scrutiny in the visa process or a flight to Mexico and a trek across the desert undetected?

This Go Fund Me effort isnt going anywhere but the number of people contributing to it is still a significant indicator of how people feel about building the wall.

that was the signature issue for why the president won.

There is already a wall. We don’t need another. They should hire more agents and buy more drones. Develop better technology to track people.

And most of all heavily fine and imprison employers breaking the laws!!

We need another wall as groups of 200+ people are still walking across the desert into our country. Those sections need to be walled.

I agree that we need to fine employers. As well as have any applications for government assistance from non-citizens and legal residents forwarded straight to immigration authorities. Any and all contact with any government agency accept the IRS should be forwarded to immigration for investigation

What is "significant"? A significant portion of Rs, yes, but certainly not the entire US population. And let's not forget that Rs are a smaller percentage of the US population.

https://www.cbsnews.com/news/cbs-news-poll-americans-dont-support-building-the-wall/

But CBS News polling from mid-November found that a majority -- 59 percent of Americans -- oppose building a wall along the U.S.-Mexico border. It's a partisan issue, though. A large majority of Republicans support the wall -- 79 percent. A majority of independents -- 66 percent -- oppose the wall, and 84 percent of Democrats are also against it.

And lest you deride CBS News as MSM, CBS News has always been pretty conservative.

I'd be fine with a wall as long as either Mexico pays for it like Trump said they would or Trump pays for it himself. But if Trump supporters don't mind paying for it, sure, go right ahead. This includes the maintenance of it in the future.

I'm making the argument that it's naive of the parents and naive/arrogant of their supporters to think that the USA provides the relief (asylum) from violence and poverty that these immigrants seek. Moreover, in some cases the move may actually be more deleterious to the kids, and is certainly not a sustainable solution to the long term problems of the countries they've left.
