Try honesty. Most clubs will want to put your kid on the best team they fit on at the club. If you're honest about having a different tryout in two weeks and say that it depends, they'll either appreciate the honesty and tell you where you stand. Yes, this can be a sellers market in some cases, but it's a buyers market too if you're child's slotted to the correct level team. |
What fields do they practice on right now in DC? How many times a week? I presume they play in SAM? |
Practice at St John’s College HS in upper NW DC 3x/ week (3rd day is optional for youngest players). Play in EDP and/or SAM, depending on the player and the week. Kids are rostered to both so they can move back and forth. St. John’s is EDP’s home field. Sal’s busy but no-nonsense. Contact him and ask directly about any tryout conflicts or questions such as when/if you have to accept offers and he’ll give you a straight answer of the type that makes our family think this club is different. I can’t read his mind, but in our time at the club he’s been honest and reasonable when asked questions that others might chafe at, this is with good news or bad. |
| so most teams have posted a " Cattle call" tryout schedule with actual dates. BRYC boys hasn't. their website says contact the DOC. should I take it as "practice with the team type of tryout"? and should I expect an offer based off of that? don't want to do here? any ideas |
Yes, you contact the DOC and they talk about what night your player can come out to join a session. At the end of the session, you talk to the coach about next steps, which is usually asking your player to come to another session. |
ok My fear is having to make a decision based off of a team practice and being asked to commit on the spot at that point missing other" open" tryouts with other clubs . anyone else have this dilemma? I know BRYC is a top club but would like to pursue both burke and mclean as well |
What age and level? Surprised to see Burke thrown into the mix with BRYC and McLean as clubs you would be deciding between. |
You are over thinking it. You will not have to commit on the spot. Any good coach will give you the time to think about it. Now if they pressure if your decision is keeping them from moving on to other offers but a week to think about it is not unreasonable. Also, it is best to hit the other club practices as well versus the tryouts. |
Yes. If you are deciding between 2 Clubs and 1 has tryouts early May and the other doesn't have tryouts until late May. Then, you should reach out to the Coach/td of the club with later tryouts and attend a practice or two. We did that in the past. The coaches there let us know most likely where child would fall/team placement. It's about development at that age so they should be honest. Nothing is 100% guaranteed but you will feel safer in your decision. We rolled the dice, turned down offers at a first Club for our kids by doing this and did end up where we wanted at 2nd Club. It's a balancing act. |

I am looking at LMVSC and SYC for my son - u10. Does anyone have any feedback on either program?
Also, where does BRYC boy U10 practice? Thinking that could be an option as well. |
LMVSC might be more competitive. |
At U10 boys, I would choose LMVSC over the other two. I found training at LMVSC much better than BRYC. I can't say much about SYC, but my DS has scrimmaged against them before and can't say I would put them over LMVSC. |

Other then DC Stod. - can someone put up a complete list of clubs/teams in NW D.C. and the leagues they play in? Not talking Capitol Hill, just NW area of the city. I don't imagine there are a lot or this is a lot of work. We are new to area and trying to get tryout list. TIA.
