We have a neighbor, lovely family whose D was accepted, she is about a 4.0 student and her ACT was 32 (her mom told me). she got in. It is clearly not all about scores.

Did you see the 4.6 GPAs and 34 ACTS rejected or waitlisted? Do you know how hard it is, statistically, to get a 34+ on the ACT. I don't have an applicant this year but I don't think DD who got in two years ago would make it in today.

Hard to guess from Internet-land. At least one of those were OOS, and one a white male which is not exactly a hook.

sorry, meant to say would NOT get in today. DDs GPA was only a 4.05 with one college course and a 34, upped to a 36 on retake. But he did not have the amount of AP courses this year's applicants are listing.

I've been accepted to UNC Honors, Miami U (full ride), Rutgers (almost full ride), USC Honors College (full ride), McGill (partial scholarship), U of Toronto (partial scholarship) and received a likely letter from Duke. There's really no telling with these things. I did write my common app essay about leading a protest...something tells me UVA is sick of political agitators! Not sad about UVA per say, but disappointed that I was simply rejected! I'm now 6 for 7, bummer.

Wow. Was that kid humblebragging or what?

No. That’s just called bragging.

Strength does not matter. More BS they feed you so your kid ruins their GPA taking 6 APs their senior year. They look at core GPA, period, then SAT and AP exam scores. You people thinking they analyze every damn class your kid takes are delusional.

What do you mean by "core GPA"?

The backgrounds and statistics offered up by the students accepted, deferred or rejected EA seem to be more thorough at this point: https://talk.collegeconfidential.com/university-virginia/2051755-uva-ea-results-decision-thread-class-of-2022.html

It’s been a good evening here as both DD and my niece were accepted.

DD is 4.55 & 34 ACT.
Niece is 4.0 (unweighted) & 31 ACT.

Big shocker was DD’s friend who was admitted with 4.25 but perfect ACT. He also had 1490 SAT.

The initial figures are out. It's quite apparent is that you have to be in the top ten percent of your class to even be considered if you are not URM, first-generation, or something extraordinarily unique. 37,222 applied. Selectivity dropped to 26.5% 93% who got in are in the top ten percent of their class Ten percent are first-generation students. 35% are a minority and 67% Virginians. These are the facts as the University presents them so I would surmise for future reference that those are the qualities they seek. https://news.virginia.edu/content/uva-releases-admissions-decisions-and-uva22-begins-trending-grounds?utm_source=UFacebook&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=news. If you can't open the link, the press release is on UVA's Facebook page.

I wouldn't put much hope in first-generation status helping. My kid got waitlisted, even with scores, gpa, APs, and extracurriculars that are all about even with kids who got in.

But ten percent first-generation is an impressive figure. I was first generation back when it wasn't appreciated . . .

Out of curiosity, do you mind if I ask if he or she is in top ten percent of their class?

Totally insufferable - so glad that applicant was rejected.

Pretty insane isn't it? Crazy competitive year for applicants unfortunately. What was 75th+ percentile last year, doesn't even get you in the door this year.

I don't know where you got the 75% for last year. 2021 was 27% acceptance. http://www.cavalierdaily.com/article/2017/03/uva-acceptance-rates-drop-for-regular-admission-decisions
