Day 21: Back on track! Bought nothing, (except groceries and some prescription medicine).
I'm 2/3 of the way through the month. |
|
Nice job OP! I'm still cheering from the sidelines, but spending more wisely.
I had to go to Target and TJ maxi for some returns yesterday and my 9 year old came with me. Every time I stopped to look at something he told me I didn't need it and I needed to save my money for things I needed, not wanted. Later he wanted a drink and I said yes (after some back and forth on whether it was a want vs a need), but as we stood in line I pointed out his drink was quite sugary (he picked a juice box). He agreed it was and said, I'll just get water when we get home. He's my new accountability coach! |

Great frugal offspring you have there PP!
OK, Day 22. Bought nothing. I'm HUGELY TEMPTED to order in a pizza for dinner. My meal plan failed (meat didn't thaw yet and takes 1.5 hours to cook so I need to punt it to Tuesday) and all we have in the house are leftovers and I'm TIRED of eating stews and leftovers. But I am not giving in. We have leftover chicken tikka masala (homemade) that was pretty decent. I can make homemade puri very easily which everyone likes. It's not the greatest dinner, but it will do OK, and if not, I can make some mango sticky rice for dessert which the kids like. |
What you need is a stash of emergency frozen pizzas: http://www.frugalwoods.com/2017/01/18/our-complete-guide-to-frugal-healthy-eating/ |
Those I have! But they get eaten by the teenage boy in 2 bites as a snack!
But Indian leftovers with homemade puri (poori?) went over extremely well! (Teenage boy also had leftover meatloaf and a baked potato.) Thrilled I didn't pick up a pizza. |
PP, remind him every Target has a water fountain, right by the bathrooms! |
| Day 23: Bought nothing but groceries. Had a takeout temptation but resisted and cooked dinner! |
Poori? Yum!
Are you Indian? |
No, but in high school my best friend was Indian, and her mom taught me how to fry puris. It is super simple. The secret to making them puff is to push on them on one side as they are frying. http://www.masalakorb.com/how-to-make-puffy-poori-indian-puri-recipe But you have a lot of leftover oil and they aren't that healthy! |
I'm Indian and this is the first time I've heard of a non-Indian making pooris! I love them but hate the mess they make so we only get to eat them when my mom visits. |
|
They are a mess, but so much easier to make than naan.
OP here (who else??) Day 24... Bought nothing! But.... I did a takeout dinner and I don't care! We got some nice news for a change and I wanted to celebrate. $36 and I don't have to do the dishes. |
| 3/4 of the way through the month! |
| I am a failure. See me in February. |
Aw... What happened? Frugal February is a plan! OP Here. Day 25 and I bought nothing. Payday is tomorrow -- so nice for a change having extra money! I managed to not spend a ton so far. Hoping to continue through the end of the month the same as I've been doing. |
|
Oh -- I have dinner plans in place for the next 7 evenings so I don't get so tempted to do takeout. I did that at the start of Buy Nothing January but got sloppy.
