Awful story. The owner of the dogs that killed his neighbor was already in jail for DV and assault. Then his pit bulls got loose and attacked the neighbors, killing one. |
Hhe craziest thing is that after rabies quarantine they are going to asses whether or not to put the dogs down. That is so insane! There should be no rabies quarantine and no assessement on whether a dog, should have the option of living if they kill or maim a person, especially a violent breed like pit bull. The dogs killed so they should be put down immediately and do the quicker brain test to see if they have rabies. Why is it even a possibility for a dog who kills or maims a person to be allowed to live? |
That doesn't answer "why they don't put them down when they're surrendered," which was the question asked, not "why are there so many of them at shelters." These aren't normal dogs. Oh, excuse me, they're the sweetest most loveable cuddle bugs until the more than occasional one snaps and kills a toddler. If they're surrendered, they should be put down. They're like the Trump of dogs. |
Is this the website that has a non scientific, self reported online "survey" that you can fill out as many times as you want as the basis for its "statistics"? Besides, toy dog nips that barely break the skin and require little medical care beyond a bandaid and anibiotic ointment are in a totally different category from aggressive, damaging bites, maulings or dismemberments that require trauma care, years of reconstructive surgery or spending life unable to smile because the dog severed a main facial nerve when he ate your ear (what happened to the little boy who was attacked by the neighbors pitbull who got lose and jumped into their minivan when mom was unstrapping him and his sister from their car seats after a trip to the grocery store). The argument of you and quack sites like this is like saying that because domestic cats scratch more frequently than tigers or even bobcats, that tabbies are a more aggressive animal. It is a stupid argumemt (chihuhuas are much more dangerous than pits ) made by stupid, dangerous people.

If they land in shelters, yes. They should be put down. There should also be an enormous fine for anyone who does not neuter or spay their pitbull breed dogs. Anyone who offers pitbull puppies for sale online should also be fined hundreds of dollars per puppy, with the puppies siezed. |
