My brother teaches in a vo-tech school in a poor area and he actually takes time to do this. Well, he teaches basic finance, about credit (teaches them along Dave Ramsey-style lines), basic life skills, etc. Way too many come in thinking your net worth is how much you can borrow. One of the reasons that I adore my brother. It isn't the "official" curriculum but he figures it will do them more good than anything else he can teach them. |
Somebody showed you something genius |
You left out parents. Most of this is directly the parents' fault. Again it circles back to people that shouldn't be parents having kids and then like begetting like. Why are these kids not able to eat nutritious food? Parents suck. Why are they not supervised so they get molested by Uncle Johnny (or daddy)? Parents suck. Why is there no money to buy clothes? Parents suck. There are a shitload of super crappy parents out there that ought not to be parents because a) they suck at it, b) they have no interest in it, c) they can't even get their own shit straight so who do they think they are to have a kid and d) can't afford it in the first place. A lot of those parents are REPEAT parents which makes the situation even worse. Maybe we need mandatory sterilization of the remora class after x number of childbirths if the Somalia thing doesn't work out. Actually, I bet Somalia wouldn't want us dumping these losers over there either so that may not be an option. |
| I like the idea of a remora test. Basically we lay out some criteria based on capability to hold a job (i.e. not truly, medically disabled) coupled with some kind of poor decision matrix/scoring system and then come up with the amount of public assistance we are willing to offer based on remora score level. If you are a total remora you get a one way ticket to Somalia. Only 2/5ths remora because of a job loss and a sick parent then maybe you get assistance for a defined period to help you get back on your feet. Come to think of it, this sounds exactly like something that might fly with the Trump administration. I'm surprised nobody has pitched it yet. |

Oh my god some of you are just pure evil.
I quit this horrible thread. |
| I ignored this thread when I saw it first pop up. The name is just weird. Hoarding dreams? Who came up with that? Now that I've read through a few pages, I think it should be "have you or your children been the beneficiary of white privilege?" |
I'm not white, but my children definitely have experienced privilege. Same for Obama's daughters. Nothing white about privilege in the modern day. |

i am a dream hoarder. my family has put a lot of energy into making usre people know their station
they have covertly supported the redlining and other marginalization, probably since the time of sugar colonies and sl##ery |
i work with peopel on medicaid. the biggest 'welfare queen' i've met in last year is a white family w a big house, 60k car and a decent sized boat with wi-fi. they on public assistance |

Just go to the Europe Model
Everyone takes a test around Middle School The bottom 1/3 goes into trade school The middle 1/3 goes into basic college The top 1/3 goes into advanced college Everyone is given instruction they can actually use and becomes productive members of society |
So their fate is determined by their performance on one test in middle school that the upper class kids are probably heavily prepped for going in.... Yeah that sounds "fair". I'll stick with the American Dream thank you. |
While other races may experience privilege -- white still does mean privilege in a lot of ways. |
I'm tired of wasting tax dollars on kids that can't handle high school let alone college. Part of the reason kids drop out is what they are "learning" is irrelevant and/or way over the heads of what they are going to be doing Better to take time to teach them an actual skill (along with life skills) so they can be productive instead of parsites in the future |
NP -- agree with you -- but I don't think kids should be forced into a track based on one test. Maybe more should be encouraged though. |
