I've never shopped there but just placed my first order. Those boots look nice! |
Trump's tweet itself referenced retailer L.L. Bean, a company that I have shopped with for my family for many years. The Twitter account referenced in the tweet is the small dining company owned by L.L. Bean heiress & L.L. Bean Board of Directors member, Linda Bean. Linda Bean is currently facing charges for setting up a pro-Trump political action committee and contributing many thousands of dollars more to her PAC than was allowed by law. Linda is a long-time right-wing political supporter & candidate for office, as I have recently learned through this debacle.
Directly or indirectly, my countless L.L. Bean purchases over many years have contributed to the assets of this woman who stands for virtually everything I am against. Furthermore, L.L. Bean itself struck out *not at this board member* for making illegal campaign contributions, but rather at the organization that brought this scandal to light. I closed my L.L. Bean account yesterday and fired off an email to them. Not that it will matter, because all those Trump supporters who are loyal L.L. Bean customers will certainly pick up the slack for me. L.L. Bean is very popular in trailer parks and coal country, for example. But I will never shop with that retailer again. |
Good riddance. |
You don't know much about trailer parks and coal country. |
They had another 25% off sale right before Christmas. Perhaps you should pay more attention. |
+1. What a weird statement. Citizens of trailer parks and coal country cannot afford LL Bean. Think more New Englanders or Bethesda lawyer families. |
You liberals are the most whiny, hyper-sensitive, entitled, pathetic bunch of losers I have ever seen. I don't know if we need to feel sorry for you or laugh at you. There is likely someone on every corporate board in America that supported Trump, so just boycott everything and STFU. Now, on to my LL Bean order. |
Really? I am very surprised because I bought a bunch of stuff all throughout December, logging in almost daily to check my orders, and never saw a sitewide 25 percent off discount. Even the banner says that this is the biggest discount ever. (Not 25 percent off sale or select items, which happens often, but 25 percent off the whole site, with the exception of the boots.) |
U mad, bro? |
So how do the clothing companies in the same market space as LLBean react to this? Lands End? Who else? Do they now feel pressure to donate to Trump so they are on an equal competitive footing as LLBean? Is one US-based company better off because Trump called them out specifically? How does this affect the market? Will we have a list of President-approved companies (all of which contributed to Trump)? |
Maybe they want to avoid the boycott backlash? |
This should be the real concern - but folks here do not quite get it. They would rather call people whiners. Everything is gravy until Trump publicly criticizes the company they work for or publicly trumpets a direct competitor. |
I'm a dem and a soon-to-be former LL Bean customer. This made me laugh. LL Bean isn't cheap and while the product is very high quality, it's not something that is in the readily affordable category for many many people. My working class in laws cannot afford LL Bean on the regular. Anyways, just wanted to point out how absurd the first comment is. But ultimately, it doesn't matter. Supporting Trump as an individual is one thing. But I don't want any business endorsing him or supporting him in anyway. He's a traitor and a demagogue. No thank you. |
The LLBean boycott is one of the silliest anti-Trump reactions that I've seen, which is saying something. LL Bean has a very good reputation as a brand, for a good reason. Unlike most clothing manufacturers, they have an upfront policy on ethical sourcing: http://www.llbean.com/customerService/aboutLLBean/sourcing_and_labor_rights.html?nav=ln
I'm quite liberal, but I think the idea of boycotting anyone who might be associate with Trump is ridiculous...not the least of which because it'll leave you sewing your own clothes from homespun cloth. He's a threat to our democracy and our economy, but if you boycott a company based on Trump's tweets you are essentially letting him decide on winners and losers anyway. Or are you planning to research the board of every clothing manufacturer and boycotting the ones that have a pro-Trump member? Boycotting Ivanka Trump's line is one thing, boycotting LL Bean is another. |
No they didn't, so stop spouting nonsense. |
