The step increases are normal part of being a teacher. You get a step each year between years 1-20, then they stop until year 25 where you get one, then a final step in year 30. Steps are around $2,500 depending on which step you are on.

The step increases might be normal for a teacher within MCPS but it's not necessarily the norm when comparing against other school systems. And is a reason why the pay and benefits at MCPS are above average when comparing against surrounding areas.

Yes, thank you for the correction, I didn't specify MCPS.

However, this is why many teachers choose MCPS over Frederick or Howard counties or even other states. Again, to attract good teachers, you want to pay and treat them well.

90K for 9months is equivalent to 130K/yr or even 140K range for those without any pension, other good benefit, and flexibility. With the new healthcare law, in the private sector, thousands more need to be sent to basic coverage.

False. There is no flex time or flex hours. There is no telework. There is no paid vacation. The equivalency you suggest is not correct.

Um, you mean school breaks (which account for at least a month out of the school year) don't count as "vacation"? Sorry, school breaks are not paid holidays for the rest of working parents. So in reality teachers get a minimum of 15 vacation days plus the 3 personal and 10 sick days per school year, all on top of "summer vacation"!

Teachers don't get paid for summer vacation.
