Thoughts on DCI, Latin or BASIS

Working adults aren't allowed to whip out their cell phones wildly bully, so why on earth children at school would be allowed is beyond me. This poor behavior will follow these kids to the workplace and make their futures harder. This is why we're not inclined to go to DCI after LAMB. Sad, really. But, if DCI can't figure out something so simple, what else are they negligent with?

Your premise is ridiculous. The school does filter content and block apps on the school provided chromebooks. But your child's phone is your responsibility. If your child doesn't have the self-control not to use is during class, why one earth would you give your child a smart phone at all? You realize there are phones without data or wifi, don't you? And a myriad of controls you can set if you can't resist buying your kid an expensive iphone. But perhaps you just don't know how to say no? Try parenting.

DCI parents should stop worrying about the tech stuff and ask why the PARCC scores are so low, and what is being done about it.

They're not so low, actually. You should expect them to be lower than those of schools in wealthy white NW neighborhoods, to begin with, shouldn't you? Beyond that, DCI'd only been operating a few months when the first tests were administered.

This is the same issue.

I hope that information isn't available. People shouldn't have the opportunity to single out/scapegoat certain feeder schools.

Wow. You would suppress information to "protect" people and control behavior? Welcome to America 2016. I thought open data in education was going to expose injustice and inequality and make us all accountable. Guess not.

The students are now DCI students - regardless of where they came from. It is up to DCI to help them get an education.

When it comes time to calculate the DCPCSB tier ranking after this year's PARCC DCI isnt' going to get an asterisk noting that some students started at xyz feeder or DCPS aren't high-SES.

DCI gets additional financial resources to support its high-needs students. The question to ask is what they are doing with them.

+100. Exactly!!!

Has any parent asked the school's plan to improve scores? The PARC scores are not good and I don't think the school can say it is because the school is new. The school worked with the kids for a whole year.

Today's story from DCI was about kids punching the pictures hanging in the hallways. Does this occur at other MS?
