This is INSANE. The school has no right to refuse to allow a child's parent to remove them from the premises -- for any reason. Such incredible stupidity.

What's INSANE is demanding that a testing session be disrupted by someone barging in to remove a student. What's INSANE is calling 9-1-1 and falsely claiming your kid has been kidnapped if your kid isn't downstairs and in your car 20 minutes after you showed up unannounced to pick the kid up.

What makes people angry is that when you pull your kid out of the test, it gets marked that your kid failed the test, and this is very damaging to the school and to your child's teacher. It's irresponsible, harmful and reckless behavior on your part.

No one said that. Go back and re-read. VALIDATION COMMITTEE.

Fail to see any real relevance to anything of substance. Again, there were MANY mathematicians involved in developing the Common Core math standard, and MANY mathematicians involved in review and feedback toward improving it. You are presenting just ONE GUY's opinion.

OK. So this group of geniuses, looking to ultimately VALIDATE the Common Core curriculum only puts one mathematician on the VALIDATION COMMITTEE. Already stupid. Then when that one mathematician gives them chapter and verse as to why the MATH STANDARD ARE WHOLLY INADEQUATE, they approve them anyway.

If that's a process you're happy standing behind and defending, good for you, I guess!! I'm not. Not good enough for my kids -- sorry.

AGAIN, THERE WAS MORE THAN ONE FUCKING MATHEMATICIAN REVIEWING THE STANDARD. GET THAT THROUGH YOUR GODDAMNED HEAD ALREADY!!!

Again, irrational anger. Must be a lot at stake here for somebody or some group of bodied. Hmmmmm

I totally agree. So much is at stake, and these people -- dismissive, abusive -- do not seem to care one whit about education, or effective program implementation. All about the money. So sad.

Wow and wow and wow -- I too am thinking of opting out my daughter from the paracc I've opted out of accessment testing - I do feel teachers have gotten away from teaching and geared more through testing maybe not their faults but non the less the kids are losing here. Dont pretend to have all the answers but can tell you have sat here for two hours to do a practice parcc test with my kid. Haaaa I encourage all of you to give up an evening and do it and then come back with all the nasty comments

Don't get me wrong opinions we r all entitled but let's be a little adult about other people's thoughts we don't have to agree but we do have to be respectful and dare I say human some I believe have forgotten

What's irrational is having posters repeating over and over that only one mathematician evaluated the Common Core math standard, when in fact a half dozen names were presented of mathematicians who were directly involved in developing the standard, along with the fact that hundreds of math teachers from NCTM were involved in vetting, reviewing and providing feedback on the standards.

It does tend to make people angry when posters keep repeating the same nonsense over and over again even though it's already been proven to be false.

Facts have been presented, which make the opinions irrelevant and meaningless. The debate ends there.

It's pointless to opt out of the test. It's not going to change what goes on in your kid's classroom if you opt out, the teachers are still going to teach the same way, they are still going to do the prep work, they are still going to be allocating the same amount of time to testing whether you opt out or not. Testing is the law, schools are required to do it, whether students opt out or not. And when students do opt out, basically that test gets marked as a zero, and the school ends up getting dinged on proficiency, which ends up hurting them, and that ends up hurting your kid's teacher.

Aha. But collective action like that taking place in NJ, NY and NM will make a huge difference. One person opting out doesn't mAke a difference 1,000s opting out make ALL the difference. It is people saying ENOUGH with the edu-assessment-technology-industrial complex taking over our public education system.

Do they really give a "zero" and "ding" a teacher for students opting out?
Anonymous
No. Not this year in DCPS. They have decided not to use the first year of the PARCC test to evaluate teachers since it is a transition year. Open question is if it is providing a baseline to compare with 2016 scores to create a value added score for next year's teachers

But if they give a zero to a student, it will affect the school's reported scores on the achool profile and such. I can't imagine that they would do that. Given that testing is over a six-week period, it would be easy for them to have the child take the test on a day he or she is in--unless parenTS are going to have the kid skip six weeks of school.

Not easy I imagine. The school has to pick dates and then OSSE needs to send official monitors and test packets. If you opt out officially with documents to back it up, no make up test should be given
