Yay - my husband finally left the Catholic Church!

NO, many Catholics are not Christians. MIL is one. Mean and petty and two-faced to everyone. To be a Christian you have to push aside all the Catholic rules, regs, prostrations and ask "Do I really take Jesus in my heart as my saviour and do I commit to lean a god-centered life, and to try to let him work through my life". Most Catholics don't do that. They think if they go to Mass, they can raise hell during the week and it doen't count because they can get absolved at the Confessional.

Wow, this is nasty. CALM DOWN.

I mean really -- several DCUM posters thinking someone is "off" is not an ego buster.

Said by the PP with no capacity for introspection.

And people deny that there are anti-Catholic bigots in society.

I'm not the pp you're sparring with and I agree with them. So yes, there are multiple posters who think you're off.

I feel like that particular atheist poster has been so disruptive for so long that it's good to finally have a mental image of him/her. So. German, Jewish. Also, because s/he also argued today that it's pointless to tell your kids not to drink, on another forum where she identified herself as German in the same post, she either doesn't have kids or she has very small kids.

Catholics are Christians, full stop. Among the earliest Christians, in fact.

I think the pp was saying that her Catholic MIL was not acting in a Christian way

You didn't read all she wrote then. It was a blanket attack on Catholic theology and practice.

Agree. I was shocked by the post and I'm not Catholic.

Not atheist. She said she believes in God but has a lot of criticisms for Christianity and denies being Muslim. Jewish does fit the bill though.

I the we know they exist. But criticism of Catholic Church is not ipso facto bigotry.

Of course criticism of anything or anyone may be deserved - or it may be bigotry. In top PP's case it's the latter.
