Level IV AAP Courses at Cooper MS Next School Year?

Cooper is going to quickly go from a small environment with capacity to adding 200/250+ kids overnight-seems like it makes more sense to do it closer to the planned renovation, otherwise adding trailers and the physical space is going to be compromised for all-I believe the recent referendum called for a Cooper renovation to begin in 2020.

The problem is the current bulge in AAP coming up from ES. Longfellow is already at capacity and Cooper is currently [/i]under enrolled[i]. It make sense to change it now before the gap gets worse.

The one year bulge is the result of the year Fairfax switched from the national CogAt to the local version and they over offered placements.

The bulge is actually in the current 6th grade. The aap #s of the current 5th grade when the custom form was offered are lower.

People keep overlooking that the even bigger problem is at Kilmer. Carole Kihm and others got Longfellow's capacity expanded when the school was renovated but nothing similar was done when Kilmer was renovated a few years earlier.

There is no reason why this change should not go into effect starting next fall.

Longfellow is at capacity including the current AAP students-and with more and more continuing to go to Cooper on their own, there is no great haste to force the issue.

Agreed. When you have Longfellow and Kilmer grossly overcrowded, waiting until the perfect moment to make Cooper a center really is no longer the priority. Why should kids at two other schools have to suffer?

Agreed. When you have Longfellow and Kilmer grossly overcrowded, waiting until the perfect moment to make Cooper a center really is no longer the priority. Why should kids at two other schools have to suffer?

Kilmer is somewhat overcrowded this year and Longfellow is very close to full capacity. But with an especially large cohort of AAP students hitting middle school next year, Cooper clearly should become the AAP center for Langley students in the fall of 2016. As you note, there will never be a "perfect" time.
