I gave up a wonderful day care to enroll our child in WOW and, like many on this forum, have concerns. My main concern at this point is lack of continuity of care: every time I visit there seems to be a different adult in the room (infant room). I visit nearly every day, so I would hope by now to at least recognize some of the floaters and "lunch relief" staff -- but I don't. And, while some of the staff seem truly wonderful, others seem only half-interested or disengaged. I'm hoping the on-going "re-assessment" will result in many improvements....
I would also like to chime in and say I am very, very happy with my child's teachers (in the Preschool group). They are warm and engaging, and they both have experience in teaching. Sounds like CCLC management needs to get its act together, but the comments on this board make it sound like all the teachers are apathetic or unqualified. That's not the case. My child's teachers are great, and I've heard good things about a number of the other teachers, too.
Parents at White Oak wonders I want you to know when CCLC chose Miss Claire to be a part of their team it is the best they have. This teacher is always with a smile is always willing to help the parent. I observed her at the open house and in the classroom she is great with the children and my child loves and has learned new things.
I agree. My husband and I really liked her when we met her at open house and my kid really took to her. I'm sorry that she is no longer in the Discovery Preschool room because IMO her skills and experience would have been an asset. Too bad. I think the new teachers are really nice as well and hope my kid will take to them just as much.
I guess we can agree to disagree

We gave up our amazing nanny for a spot at WOW and have been sadly disappointed in the facility so far. One of the teachers in our child's room is wonderful, the other is not. But despite the one good teacher (who can't be expected to give her attention to all the kids in the class), the chaos of the center is too much -- the open classrooms mean the noise level is so loud that none of the infants or young toddlers get good naps. My son is beyond exhausted. And, like a previous poster, I see a new person in my child's classroom every day. This is upsetting for me (I'd like to know who is taking care of my child) and even more upsetting for my son, who is confused enough at the new surroundings and routine, without having to deal with new faces all the time. I find Alice to be nice, but extremely inexperienced and not qualified to be a center director. Nor is she honest -- rather than admit to me that there are problems and that she is trying to find solutions, she falsely reassures me that everything will be ok. We are looking for alternative child care arrangements and will likely pull our son out of WOW, unless things rapidly improve.

I'm so sorry to 14:25. While some of us mothers have older children and are/were experiencing problems- it's even more difficult to hear that very similar things are occurring in the infant room. I would be very upset if my DC wasn't napping (and DC is 2 and was very tired due to the one hour nap- which is insufficient for a 2 year old).
I am also disconcerted to hear that you didn't get feedback from Alice. My communication w/ her was the exact opposite. She admitted there were issues and that they were trying to fix them. I am not sure if that is because there were so many she couldn't deny the issues, or if she was trying to placate me. It didn't work. But at least she admitted it. I'd be furious if I brought her attention to issues and she had no resolve to admit they existed or make them right. It sounds as if quite a few parents have gone to talk to the directors. I hope that they are present at the parent's meeting and things start looking up. If not, I suggest taking your concerns beyond the Regional Director. She has been visible in the center and if things aren't improving then it needs to go beyond her as well. |

What were your thoughts based on the parent meeting on thursday?
