So please feel free to share your child's school, PP. a W feeder?
So, PP, what is your damn problem? Is this conversation too over your head? Why don't you let us know your child's school so we can let the teachers there know precisely how much you devalue them. |
And them what? The teachers would treat the kid poorly because of his/her parents' views? Your borderline threatening behavior is just sad. |
I would be happy to pay teachers more, however; there are teachers who will teach (and teach well) and those that are simply there. This is the case in any office building/corporation. Why must the teachers who are present and great teachers be at the same playing level as the teachers who just show up? Oh, right…..tenure. If you have a pulse, you have tenure. I think tenure is great but must be earned. As with any other employment, it should be at will and based on merit. Your job should not be held onto because you have a union and pay them dues. Unions were once great when there weren’t OSHA and other city/state/federal laws. They have given us great things (Labor Day, sick and vacation days)! But there comes a time when enough is enough.
I will have great respect for MCPS when teachers and administrators (And this is just my experience with MCPS) ARE educators. Don’t come to school wearing sweat pants, shorts, flip flops and t-shirts. Answer the emails and phone calls from concerned parents and help them understand, don’t give canned answers as in “She’s fine”, “Don’t worry, he is a good student”. If parents are present and active in the school, don’t ignore or disregard them because they seem “annoying” or in the words of Pat O’Neill, PIA’s. We understand you have families and most live out of the county, however if you need to take part at the school after the final bell rings, don’t complain about your family missing out and/or your commute. You did take this job as an MCPS teacher so be a teacher in your school for the community. This also rings true for administrators. As with anything, it all trickles down and teachers are the most available people to bash. It’s not their fault, they just happen to be at the forefront of the debate. |
Contrary to what you think, teachers do not purposely seek out children of "difficult" parents in order to make their lives miserable. You must think we're idiots and completely unprofessional.
I can't tell you how often I've had kids cry to me about their parents (from both ends of the spectrum . . . from those abused and neglected to those who could barely utter a word b/c their helicopter parents were so overbearing). If the poor kid's parents are idiots, how can we hold THAT against the kid? I (aka - "enraged teacher") asked that particular PP where her children attended school. why? b/c I am often amazed at how callous some parents in the W clusters can be when discussing inequity If they can't feel it, it doesn't exist. So they're the first to say, "Let's slash benefits and cut salaries." If more teachers leave, fine - b/c we'll just send them to private b/c we have the means to do so Let's just ignore the kids in the red zone who are the ones who truly suffer from the cuts.

b/c the "liberal" banks and corporations never got us into this mess, right? b/c of their benevolent measures in helping our weakest, correct?
NCLB was a Bush baby. You can thank your Republican buddy for training kids how to neatly bubble in answers w/o sharpening their critical thinking skills. And this is what we - as teachers have become - #2 pencil pushers. How can any parent NOT be enraged by this? Our kids are being cheated out of education. Keep your fingers crossed that on line degrees will be good enough for your child b/c that's where we're headed.

Again another silly threat. Rather than online courses what is more likely to happen is that public school teachers will become private school teachers. They will work more for less pay and benefits and teach the same kids. |
Indeed, MoCo spends 15k per pupil yearly. If the same benefits and salaries paid in the private sector for school teachers were paid in MoCo, the expenditure per pupil would reduce further. I would say it could come down to 10k. Then a deal between county and taxpayers would be to give 5k back to parents, keep the other five to the state and lease the school facilities to a private operator that would charge 10k. Each parent would pay 5k per kid. Of course numbers are not exact, but the overall idea is that if teachers want hijack the education budget allocation with increasing negative impact on class sizes and school operation, parents might as well pull the plug.... |
Unions are holding the kids hostage |
Well, that’s just silly. Some on this board (such as Angry Teacher) rail against any benefit/salary cuts for teachers, and couch the issue as one of respect. I simply want them to propose specific alternatives. I didn’t make it an issue of respect – AT did. And you appear to need a basic lesson in federalism and American government. For instance, Montgomery County and the State of Maryland don’t have any control over DOD’s budget, for example, and I’m pretty sure they can’t issue war bonds. Neither can they impose tariffs on companies that use offshore labor. Do you have any proposals that would actually (i) be legal, and (ii) help Montgomery County address the budget shortfall? |
AT does not pass the laugh test. Clueless to the bone, but IT business will make her rich now. |
Likely in a neighborhood you don't live in ![]() |
You'll all be sorry very soon.
very soon |
AT Threats again!

What's the sense? Trying to beat sense into the public is like writing on a brick wall with chalk in the rain. |
