+1. But is not fraudulent by itself. It’s fraudulent because the criteria is not fully disclosed nor the recipients.

This black family is full pay for two kids at our private school, and rightfully so. We don’t even apply for FA. Would be bad form for us to do so and, frankly, we’d prefer to avoid being a “FA-family” given the stereotypes that attach to folks in our social position (and that others need think nothing of!).

I hear you, but I’m white and please understand that some people will always doubt your right to be in certain spaces. Perhaps you are “full pay” rich, but then the question is, how did you get in that position? Who gave you whatever job or admission to whatever school that put you on such track? Not saying this is most people, but it’s talk that I hear on a non infrequent basis.

Let's be clear - there are far more white families on financial aid in private schools than families of color. Financial aid is about finances, not race. Hence the name. And there are plenty of people, white people, who can afford full tuition and are not paying it because they have negotiated financial aid. Have an honest talk with any financial aid office.

When you have race-based financial aid this is the expected result.

It would be better with merit or need based financial aid.

An upper class middle family that owns a house, has 2 cars, and goes on vacations abroad every years does not need financial aid.

Well it is disguised as need-based aid but there is a large racial component and the families game the system to maximize their aid eligibility.

Yep - wish “they” had their own schools.

You do the same for claims of race-based financial aid decisions.

Well private schools are free to use race in admissions and financial aid decisions and they do. This is well known.

It's literally illegal as of 6/29/23.

Wow if this is a sampling of private school families no thank you. Gross.

No that only applies to universities/colleges that receive federal funding, which is pretty much all of them.

K-12 schools are still able to use race in admissions and financial aid decisions. Why do you think it is still on the application?

Nope! Untrue. Independent schools cannot maintain 501(c)(3) status unless race plays no role in admissions and financial aid decisions.

No, but if a real estate company that owned a bunch of mansions started giving them away to some people at a discount, we all know some of the posters here would be the first ones bitching about it.

Real estate companies would prefer to sale them at the full price. The people that want a mansion but can afford a condo, can go to a condo and live happily there.

You missed the point entirely, which is that it is up to the real estate company (private school) to decide what they want to do with them.

You just want a say and are mad because you don’t have one.

Wrong again.

That is from 1981 civil rights act and doesn’t apply to affirmative action / DEI modern practices.

The recent Supreme Court case that impacted colleges has zero impact on private K-12 school.

The financial aid posts get old. We can't go 2 months on here without an ugly one.

If you don't like how your school dispenses aid:

1)withdraw your kids OR

2)become a Head of School or Director of aid or at the very least a board member and make this your public crusade.

We receive 60% off tuition, but I’m a teacher at the school

No! The majority in SFFA v. Harvard reaffirmed that anything that violates the Equal Protection Clause also violates Title VI of the Civil Rights Act.

“'We have explained that discrimination that violates the Equal Protection Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment committed by an institution that accepts federal funds also constitutes a violation of Title VI.'” Gratz v. Bollinger, 539 U.S. 244, 276, n. 23 (2003)."

If you violate Title VI, you cannot maintain tax exempt status.

Lawyer here. It is cute you think that. No private K-12 schools have changed practices as a result of the recent supreme court decision.
