+1. But is not fraudulent by itself. It’s fraudulent because the criteria is not fully disclosed nor the recipients.

This black family is full pay for two kids at our private school, and rightfully so. We don’t even apply for FA. Would be bad form for us to do so and, frankly, we’d prefer to avoid being a “FA-family” given the stereotypes that attach to folks in our social position (and that others need think nothing of!).

I hear you, but I’m white and please understand that some people will always doubt your right to be in certain spaces. Perhaps you are “full pay” rich, but then the question is, how did you get in that position? Who gave you whatever job or admission to whatever school that put you on such track? Not saying this is most people, but it’s talk that I hear on a non infrequent basis.

When you have race-based financial aid this is the expected result.

It would be better with merit or need based financial aid.

An upper class middle family that owns a house, has 2 cars, and goes on vacations abroad every years does not need financial aid.

What are talking about? Almost all DMV privates of note are primarily need-based, with a much smaller amount set aside for merit, sometimes none.

Well it is disguised as need-based aid but there is a large racial component and the families game the system to maximize their aid eligibility.

Yep - wish “they” had their own schools.

Your need-based are homeowners in the most expensive areas of dc. So no, they are not need-based. Those families can send their kids to cheaper private schools.

Let's be clear - there are far more white families on financial aid in private schools than families of color. Financial aid is about finances, not race. Hence the name. And there are plenty of people, white people, who can afford full tuition and are not paying it because they have negotiated financial aid. Have an honest talk with any financial aid office.

If, you have the money you should pay. We make sacrifices so our kids can attend private school. We’ve had to cut back on a lot of our wants, but that should be expected if a family has money, but can barely afford it

You mean for people who don't want to pay tuition? That is called public school.

I think the "they" refers to people of color. Appalling.

I’ll let the single mom nurse whose kid is in my class know.

That isn’t why they got financial aid though.

The single mom nurse could send her kids to public school and she and her kids will be fine, like the kids of most nurses in this country.

That mom could be getting a lot in alimony and child support snd making 300+ a year.

Well private schools are free to use race in admissions and financial aid decisions and they do. This is well known.

Anonymous wrote:We started out at 50% FA for PreK at a small pK-12. So incredibly grateful because we would not have been able to attend otherwise. At that time we had one parent in residency and one SAHP with younger kids at home (with part-time side hustles) and tons of student loans. We had a huge jump in income after residency and both parents went back to work. We’re now full pay for both kids, and plan to give to the annual fund over the coming years to “pay forward” the financial aid we received.
I can’t believe all the people on here who slam FA. Families who apply for financial aid have to fill out full financial disclosures and are not trying to “game the system”. If you don’t like it then don’t give to the annual fund (which is almost always where financial aid budget comes from in most schools, almost never from tuition).

Your partner was a SAHM and you asked for FA for private school? The entitlement is disgusting.
