I recognized that. I just wanted to put an exclamation point on how big of a boondoggle it has been so far. |
Really? The absence of data didn’t seem to matter when you were asserting that UC students lack top test scores. Right? You jumped from test blind to low performers pretty easily without data. By the way, the research at UT (among all other data on the subject) is my basis for doubting that the test optional format is at least as flawed at the test blind format in weeding out low performers. What’s your data-driven basis for doubting that the leader of the top publics in America is no longer Cal or UCLA. Remember, show data. |
Why didn’t lack of data stop you from arguing that an education from UC Berkekey, UCLA, or any other school on the entire UC system has declined in worth of late? Not a single data point, just bashing the test blind format and arguing that it resulted in a massive decline in these schools. As if the test optional format at your own kid’s school is better? |
+100 The USNews rankings are really quite absurd. I’m not sure what they’re doing behind the scenes, but they seem to create many ties among top schools to reduce controversy. Also, because of the methodology mentioned above, the rankings become distorted and create confusion for many people who are trying to gauge academic quality or admissions difficulty. |
If you are at one of the top schools in the country and you still genuinely care about your peer's SAT scores you peaked in high school. |
| You can objectively rank schools based on some metrics like research spending, but I don't see any way to objectively rank undergraduate education. Yet it is debated endlessly. |
Our kids shouldn’t have to slum it with the sub-1400 goofballs. This isn’t clown college after all. |
The test optional nonsense is making the UC Berkeley student body look like that of ASU. |
Don’t insult ASU by comparing it to the UC colleges. |
Try reading that again. |
That is exactly what they would like. It's OK to have a bit of success but not so much that you undermine the white supremacy oppressing minorities so they can never succeed narrative. |
W&M is good for what it is but Wisconsin has so many research opportunities in so many fields. |
I get it but non-Californians do this. Frisco and San Fran are so commonly used it makes me cringe but nobody realizes how cringey it is because I'm in frikking Virginia |
Obviously UCs are a great bargain for anyone from California so a kid that didn't get a lot of aid at a better school would go to UCLA or Cal but Cal used to be much more popular compared to other selective colleges. And while test optional was a trainwreck for most schools, test blind has been a plane wreck for Cal and UCLA. But while most of the selective test optional selective schools are going back to test required, the UC system is digging in its heels with test blind and the best students are deliberately avoiding test optional and test blind schools. |
ASU is basically UCLA without access to a beach. |
