Hawaii has polo. Maybe they could film an epi there?

I feel like they'll use the Florida facility they mentioned, which apparently they have connections to so it would be cheaper. But they'll pretend it's somewhere else. Could be Hawaii. Maybe they change the bunting and signage around and then in the next scene it becomes Paris. Who knows.

The elitism is a feature, not a bug. Rich people problems always sell. Most of us have never spent time with any of the Real Housewives of XYZ, either, but lots of people seem to love watching them. It won't necessarily be you or me watching the polo, but people will definitely watch.

No, drama sells, even if it’s Springer or Roseanne. Heck even their drama—their Oprah interview and book—sold. They haven’t proved they can do drama beyond their family.

Every time they do something, it comes with great expectations beforehand. There are people who think this is series is going to be sleazy? Maybe it will be. But their past record shows they don’t even get why people watch entertainment, let alone produce entertaining content.

I don't think it needs to be sleazy, just sexy. And actually Megan has a lot of connections with people who have experience hitting exactly the tone I think this show is going for, with Suits. If they combine Harry's polo contacts with some of the writers, directors, even actors that Megan worked with, it could be a hit.

I could easily see Meg's friend Abigail Spencer playing a role on the show, she has the right look and vibe for a show about rich, globe trotting, horse people. I don't think the men from Suits are appropriate for a show about polo players, but if they can find beefcake with Patrick Adams approximate acting skill, that would work.

Something Suits did well (and look, it wasn't a great show, but it was very watchable and ran for a lot of seasons) is they always incorporated humor and character actors, so it wasn't just hot lawyers being slick and dramatic. That will help a show like this. I like some of the plot ideas people have suggested too -- a polo family in the verge of bankruptcy due to getting around the world to matches, horses in tow. An in demand polo bachelor torn between the match his parents want and what his heart tells him. Plus they have to have some royal characters right? Perhaps with some family drama? Maybe a pair of prince brothers with a lifelong competition who take it out on each other during polo matches. That sort of thing could help satisfy people who want to see royal drama on screen -- all they'd have to do is hint enough at Harry's real life while changing enough details to keep people guessing as to whether the reference is intended to be a reference.

Sexy isn’t enough. It needs drama. She’s had these connections for years and couldn’t produce it.

Because she has a difficult relationship with drama. It’ll be hard for her to create a drama she likes that people want to watch.

This is the first scripted drama they are producing. Of course her hostessing show didn't have drama, that's a different thing.

Megan won't be writing or show running, the will hire people for that. She definitely has good contacts for that. She knows casting directors, set designers, etc. This would be her first opportunity to really exploit those contacts. And for all the negative press she has garnered over the years, she's always reportedly has good relationships with the people she worked with as an actor. She's still close friends with so many people from suits, not just actors but people who worked behind the scenes. I'm really curious to see what they come up with.

I don't get the negativity, frankly. Why would you root for this to fail? If it's good, it could be a fun watch.

I agree, we don't know what they could do, because they've never done drama before. So far, he did a polo documentary, she did a lifestyle show, together they did a documentary about Megit, and these featured heavy involvement from their personal friends. No drama, except for some tame IRL stuff, because they weren't going to spill the dirt on their friends.

With this polo drama, they're partnering with the people behind the Dynasty reboot, and someone above said that was spicy. People here have already mentioned several possible storylines. The bankrupt family dragging their ponies around the world. The aristocrat who wants to marry the cute artist who does artwork for the polo grounds, against his family's wishes. The hot polo player who comes out. An affair or two. A scriptwriter who can't think of drama just isn't trying.

I don't get the negativity either.

Lack of excitement isn’t negativity. It’s neutrality.

Like with any upcoming predictable marvel movie, some people are excited, some are negative, and most will wait and see if it’s any good.

Some people are rooting for it to fail, but not me. After years of hype leading to blah, I’m just not bothering with the hype. If it’s great, word will spread.

The only way I see this succeeding is if she finally makes peace with the human appetite for the sleazy things in life, whether Lady Mary’s affairs in Bridgerton or Princess Diana’s in real life and delivers. I suspect it may be too difficult due to where she comes from personally.

Lady Mary is from Downton Abbey.

I don't think the show has to be sleazy to be successful.

Also weird you mention Diana's affairs but not Charles and Camilla.

Ok, all of the above sold to the tune of millions of dollars of products. If Meghan can deliver that, she too can reap financial rewards of entertaining people.

DP. I don't get why pp keeps making it about "Meghan this" and "Meghan that." Harry is a co-producer with Meghan, and Harry's actually the one who plays polo.

Because if Meghan weren’t there, the project would definitely fail. No prince could work their way through Hollywood. A prince could be an add-on to an existing project. They could be brought in for consultation. But the actual act of production would fall apart in the hands of European royals.

There are plenty of other industry heavyweights getting involved. Again, they're partnering with the people behind the Dynasty reboot. And it looks like they've got solid support from Netflix, including the scriptwriters. Will Meghan even have the last word on anything? Who knows. I agree that she'll definitely have input based on her industry experience, but none of us knows how much that will count.

Harry's the one who will be lining up the polo grounds and perhaps a few polo star walk-ons. Harry's the one who will be weighing in on whether plotlines and characters seem realistic, from the standpoint of someone who knows the polo world. Frankly, Meghan would have little to add, at least polo-wise. The fact that Harry's a prince doesn't negate what he could bring in terms of polo versimilitude and connections in the polo world.

So yep, making this project all about Meghan seems to be trying to tarnish it for the haters in the back rows, and it also seems inaccurate.

You can keep saying that, but that will just alienate people even more who feel like you don’t get it and will never get it.

No one ever talks about Harry producing this, because if Meghan’s chances of delivering entertaining, dramatic content is low, Harry’s is zero. Harry can bring all the polo knowledge he wants, and he can call himself whatever he wants, but he’s not creating great, immersive content.

Hope it is good! I’ll definitely check it out. I do not like polo (or should say I have no experience with it) but I do like reality tv and hot actors.

The idea that Megan’s in complete control, to the point that she won’t even talk to Harry about the script or other features, is sort of bizarre.

That’s pretty much how everything goes with them, though.
I doubt anything will come of it. It’s only in very first stages of development. Harry pissed off a lot of polo people after the Sentebale thing, not sure his connections are strong.

If they go full trash and camp like Footballers Wives it could be great. The problem with both of them is that they don’t seem to be too good at taking advice or direction or a back seat in anything. There’s a lack of humility that limits creativity and inhibits their success. Sometimes when you hire the gal who is THE gal, you need to shut up, take their advice and let them do the thing they are best at. They can’t seem to get out of their own way.

You can keep saying that, but you’ll clearly alienate the people who think you’re one of the obvious misogynoir posters here. Maybe you are, maybe you aren’t.

You’re the only one who’s saying that this is entirely about Meghan, and you haven’t given us a good reason to think anything different about you.

It’s clear Harry’s the polo guy, and Harry’s going to be making all the arrangements with polo grounds, polo players, polo storylines, and polo horses.

PS. Headed off to a march. Anytime you feel compelled to try to rehash arguments we’ve already seen, just refer back to this and to the other people arguing against you.

Either Harry and Meghan have equal decision power and influence, in which case the chances of success are the same as the guy on the street and an OB doing major bone surgery.

Or it’s Meghan leading and Harry following, in which case you’ve got an OB doing major bone surgery. Maybe she has a chance, but the proof will be when it’s done.

You don't know them personally but you believe everything you read in the Fail about their marriage. Sure, Jan.

I thought you didn't know anything about polo, let alone what "polo people" think of Sentebale? Meanwhile, I have a conspiracy theory for you. William's ("Africa is mine, Harold!") friend Iain Rawlinson accompanied Sentebale's CEO through her barnstorming tour of Britain where she trashed Harry--but the UK charity commission found there was nothing to her claims. Rawlinson is still on her two-person (lol) board. She's running Sentebale into the ground, BTW, with donations in hell now that Harry's no longer bringing in funds, and she's closed down some key centers and cash balances are nearing zero, but who cares about children with AIDS so long as Harry loses one of his favorite charities, amIright? Rumor is that William is coming after Invictus next, and you can already see the rumbling from Willy's friend Tom Sykes. And Invictus has already started pushing back, lol (see earlier in the thread for the US Warrior Teams head denying Bowers' lies about Invictus). I'm sure the "polo people" know exactly what Chandauka and Willy did to Sentebale, so you can't stop worrying about the "polo people."

There is a polo field in Santa Barbara thst is very close to Montecito. I wondered if thar was one reason they chose to live there instead of L.A. I myself have never seen another polo field. Do people play it in other parts if the U.S.? Seems like a south Ame

Why do you guys keep forgetting that they're partnering with the people who did the Dynasty reboot, and they also have lots of Netflix support?

The problem with both of them is that they don’t seem to be too good at taking advice or direction or a back seat in anything. There’s a lack of humility that limits creativity and inhibits their success. Sometimes when you hire the gal who is THE gal, you need to shut up, take their advice and let them do the thing they are best at. They can’t seem to get out of their own way.

Good thing we have someone here who knows them personally. This take couldn't possibly be coming from Reddit hate subs, could it?

It’s just an observation based on what we’ve seen them produce thus far. Kind of neutral IMO. I don’t know them and neither do you. Why do you feel the need to try to shut down any discussion that isn’t fawning? It’s kinda weird for someone you don’t know.
