That’s what Americans are afraid of. We’ve always worried about it, and now that the powder keg in the Middle East is once again on fire, we are even more concerned…particularly since our global world and immigration system made our melting pot simmer with this exotic mix of a mindset.

Actually, it was a Swiss Army knife. Those were brave ROTC students but it must have been incredibly traumatic.

I totally agree. This is the number 1 reason we should leave the middle east alone. Let them fight each other. Do not intervene, do not let in a lot of immigrants. The worldview is too different and there is no amount of intervention that will stamp it out.

We don't "need" it if we had any capacity to plan. And those middle eastern countries similarly need export markets for their oil. That is pretty much all they have to offer.

Let’s analogize control of oil and gas production to “Ticket to Ride”, a fairly easy-to-learn strategy game. The lesson you’ll eventually discover is that if you only make moves to advance your strategy, you’ll likely lose. To begin, your opponent will easily see what moves you’re making and move to block you! This means that you need to also play to obstruct your opponent from advancing their strategy. You do this by deducing which train routes they are trying to complete based on their moves so far and then claiming the tracks they’d need to complete said routes, even if you don’t need them. You also need to make plays to obfuscate your true objectives. If a fascinating game to play.

Recent American moves in Venezuela and Iran seem designed to block China from accessing cheap oil. China is building up wind / solar/ hydro not because it’s a friendly, environmentally conscious actor, but because it’s terribly exposed to oil and gas and needs alternatives. However, wind/solar/hydro won’t propel its military assets.

In a perfect world, you’d be right. Unfortunately, as another poster pointed out, it’s not that simple.

If we don’t maintain a role in the ME, Russia and China (and possibly others) will take the opportunity to take control of the markets.

I bet those countries know we COULD help them; our government has just chosen NOT to.

As for the synagogue attack, the FBI coincidentally ran an active shooter drill 6 weeks before it actually happened in Michigan. No other organization except Temple Israel to have benefited from the FBI “Active Shooter Attack Prevention and Preparedness” (ASAPP) training program in recent months (from late 2025 to early 2026).
