Report of shooting at or near wootton

Normally when an incident happens there is at least one parent that has a student that attends that school that has some info on what happened. SO far nothing here.
i.e.- they were fighting over a girl, someone was being bullied, etc..

Wootton story will be forgotten and we will move on until the next one. I have kids in MCPS, so all of this directly affects me.

I want to agree with and support this poster. My heart broke in a permanent way after Sandy Hook. If a room full of dead 1st graders didn’t change our laws or our ways then nothing will. My son was the same age — those kids would be sophomores in college now if they had lived. I will vote for change, I will support change, but I fully expect this will just keep happening.

I have felt the same way, PPs. Just heartbroken and, at times, having little hope. If that didn't shake this nation into using some sense, what will? But we must keep trying.

They have to clear the whole school before anybody leaves.

Over 50 staff left over the summer - new principal, half of assistant principals, the head of security, the head of special education, most of counseling, and so many teachers. There was the inadequate handling of racist events. Now this. When is central office going to give Wootton the support they obviously need?

No, they’re going to close Wootton and send their kids to Gaithersburg. Obviously Wootton is being unfairly targeted by MCPS for some DEI agenda.

Now they’re sending them to crown.

There are kids all over the county in our high schools wearing ankle monitors. MCPS is required to educate all kids. Where else would kids with ankle monitors go to school?

RICA

Which is exactly why MCPS needs to reopen Mark Twain School. That's where emotionally disturbed students with ankle monitors went until MCPS closed it in 2009.

No, that’s not what Mark Twain was.

I thought RICA was for kids with priors.

No, RICA is more medical - mental health printed. Ewing serves kids who criminally and severe discipline issues.

Wootton Student shoots another Wootton student.

It's not DEI
It is not lack of SRO's

Answer is mental health, parents who suck, and guns.

Columbine parents of the shooter were at fault.
Sandy Hook not only parents of shooter but the Alex Jones Sandy Hook deniers who are now MAGA morons yeah that is where these kids come from.
VT parents fault and police racial profiling and school not doing it's dam job not getting their kid help.

This is not a Wootton issue this is a parent issue.

It’s already quite a legal colonoscopy to both buy and get a carry permit in this state, as one would want. We need to treat security more like courthouses, where it’s not just on the honor system for being gun free.

Parents are required, but gun locks on triggers or lock their guns in a safe with no access to it from teens. No guns in the homes with people with mental illness or prior convictions. There’s a lot of laws.

You could’ve just gone to another state and bought one at a festival and brought it back.

It was Jawando who introduced legislation to ban SROs:
https://www.montgomerycountymd.gov/council/Resources/Files/agenda/col/2021/20210204/20210204_1.pdf

He's on the ballot this year, running for County Exec.

Echoing this post. Teachers, parents and admin all wanted to keep SROs in schools. They were an integral part of keeping kids safe at school.

How does the magical SRO prevent this? 50 teachers and staff didn't detect the gun. What would 1 SRO do?

The Onion has reused this article 22 times for mass shootings

I think you missed the PPs point, and jumped in trying to feel superior here.

I don’t think I missed PP’s point and I’m not ok with someone who feels at peace with a classroom full of kindergartners being shot to death.

What have you done about it in the past 20 years, warrior?

Mental health will always be an issue. Some parents will always suck. But only in the USA can you get a gun far easier than it is to get a license to drive a car.
