D.P. I can't lie to you people. This is exactly how I remember events.

Just because they aren’t the right schools for some kids doesn’t mean others won’t like them or that they’re bad schools. This post about Davidson was particularly pretentious since they literally judged the students who attend and the surrounding area.

Also consider that these posts may be posturing/trolling. It seems too systematic that we’re told regularly - thread by thread - that every quality school south of the Mason Dixon line doesn’t measure up. UVA, Vanderbilt, Richmond, Davidson, etc. Their rankings are questioned. Their popularity is questioned. Their social life is questioned. And, mostly in a stereotypical way - They’re not intellectual. They’re racist.

In contrast, I see none of the same about NE schools, many of which I’ve visited or family has attended. NE schools can be unwelcoming and exclusionary toward middle-class and non-NE students, and their outcomes reflect more of the industries located in the NE than the schools themselves. Also, many of their campuses are old and in need of significant repair, and many dorms don’t have air-conditioning. None of this means that the schools are bad, but it suggests that some balance in posted views would be refreshing.

I don’t know…tons of UVA and W&M boosters. Duke gets a lot of love as well as UNC…just not for each other. Emory and GaTech also spoken highly.

A bit of an over reaction.

Can you give an example of NE campuses in “need of significant repair”

None of Amherst is in need of repair. The dorms are very nice, the science center is gorgeous, Lyceum is new and spacious, and the new student center will give the college even more space. You must think Oxbridge are in need of significant repair

+1 Amherst is in spectacular condition. I don’t know how PP reasoned otherwise. I’d be surprised if they’ve ever been.

NE schools are just better.

Will admit that Bowdoin's campus is decrepit.

In what way? Many have smaller faculty listings and struggle to attract good talent because of their trash locations, most of those schools are living way past their primes.
