Tufts ♥️

Tufts exists as a parking lot for private school kids who couldn't quite hack it into an Ivy or similarly prestigious institution. It sounds elite to your hometown peers while you can brag about intimate class sizes, first-year research opportunities, and amazing interactions with professors all while prestigious internships are handed out like candy to soothe your wounded ego. It's like a special club for those who know they're settling, you know?

But its ranking isn't even that great? Its peers are BC, Rutgers, etc. and that isn't that impressive?

It's all about the story you tell. The ranking is fine, but acceptance rate is low which means you can brag about elite peers who chose tufts for whatever fancy attribute you can think of.

Tufts peer is not Rutgers. Rutgers peers are SUNY's, Penn State, UConn, UMass, Pitt, Michigan State, etc.

I read that Tufts might have slipped in the eyes of the public because it doesn't have as many international students as some of the other Boston schools so it doesn't get as many applications. Not that the number of applications is indicative of that much.

I don’t have a dog in this fight. My kid isn’t at Tufts, I didn’t go to Tufts. Not a good idea to put down any school. Your kid could end up there for grad school, your grandkid could end up at a school that you scorn, and you may be forced to swallow your words and wear the college T-shirt.

According to USNWR it is Rutgers. Also Ohio State. Sorry.

I am laughing out loud imagining someone saying this in real life.

People seem eager to display their ignorance these days.

That's because you have some old time memories of Tufts being an elite school. Times change.

No, it’s because it’s funny that someone would say “According to the USNWR” like they are citing an actual authority.

Agreed! Tufts is ranked 282 by the WSJ. I tend to believe that USNWR ranks Tufts too high.

Sorry USNWR doesn’t determine that.
Every year, 10 million applicants collectively determine that.

Well my DD just picked Tufts over Columbia and we are not feeling sorry about it.
