Tufts ♥️

And he loved the collaborative spirit of both. But I do wonder about how a weird tour guide etc can throw off one’s whole opinion of a school. We had a weird tour guide at Amherst and then the school quickly fell off the list, for reasons I see as silly and superficial. (Amherst would be my first choice for him! But of course would be thrilled for Brown or Tufts to work out.)

We had the same experience! Was your Amherst admissions officer a woman with very red lipstick (some of which was on her teeth) who counted to five on her five fingers? It was a really weird experience. I love the science building and the museum with the mammoth skeleton, but the AO really stuck out in a bad way...

She has the stats for higher ranked schools but loved the collaborative vibe and proximity to Boston. Her tour guide was fantastic and she spent an extra couple of hours just walking around--she said the students were extremely friendly and raved about the professors and inclusive nature of the school. We'll see if it stays at the tippy top of her list but I could totally see her applying ED there.

What a great tour guide! We had a similar experience at BC - so much so that DS decided he'd ED1 there and canceled the Tufts tour scheduled the following day. So parents - beware how you tee up those tours! DS visits friends at Tufts, BU & MIT and everyone seems to be very happy with their choices. A really great town for college kids.

How did you add a "heart" in the title? Cool.

We had a fantastic tour guide at Tufts. There’s no question it influenced my kid’s desire to apply.

My son visited the campus twice, once on our own and once to attend a sport camp. He crossed it off from his list. I think he doesn’t like the campus. Somehow he likes Northeastern university much better, which I don’t get, and I attended NEU.

Worst admission office presentation of all the schools we visited. The students we met were unenthusiastic about the school. Campus is not even close to BC in beauty. It came off my kids list right after the tour. She’s going to BU next fall.

We attended on admission presentation with one kid and it was awful; attended the next year with kid #2 and it was one of the best presentations I've seen.
So much riding on the presenter that it's almost too bad that it can be the deciding factor.

Except it’s in Medford

DC#1 loved Tufts too! The tour and information sessions made a big impression. Personally, I thought DC had a shot at some other schools, but DC wanted to apply ED1. It’s nice to hear from others with current students who are having a good experience!

Interesting…we toured all the Boston schools last year and loved Tufts. While it is certainly not the pretty, we all thought it was much prettier than BU. And BU had by far the worst tour guide of any I’ve seen (on my third kid).

Agree Tufts and BU not nice campuses and no school spirit

Can everyone here be clear about their DC's major? Different major may have drastically different cultures

My junior will visit Tufts and BC this spring. On paper, I believe Tufts better fit - so hoping the Tufts tour guide does not disappoint!

We have kids at both. BC is prettier and has more traditional school spirit. Extremely homogeneous student body with a strong preprofessional “striver” vibe.

Tufts campus is not as pretty; students are more intellectual and passionate about their classes and way more diverse.

Both are great schools.
