You can't put ND in same category as Georgetown. Georgetown doesn't even deny any applicants in their EA cycle -- either deferred or accepted. Last year ND accepted 15% of their REA applicants and deferred 19%, meaning the bulk of their applicants were denied. As a deferred student at Georgetown, you have no clue where you stand because they basically keep you and everyone else hanging. It doesn't make sense to even bother with the EA cycle at Georgetown. My kid who is interested in both but prefers ND will not bother applying to Georgetown unless he gets deferred or denied in the REA cycle at ND.

GU has a separate application, so no, DS will not be doing EA. He's not really that hyped about Georgetown honestly and doesn't want the hassle of a new application considering he plans to do ED2 to BC if he is denied at ND and he prefers BC over Georgetown. So he can save a lot of time wait until RD to apply.

Also meant to mention that there is a slight edge applying REA to ND, especially if you have good stats. It demonstrates that student isn't applying ED anywhere else and considering ND likes to yield protect, a high stats kid has a slightly stronger chance REA than RD.

Applying ED to UVA in-state was a no-brainer for my kid. She got in, and is as happy as can be. She knew we would only pay for in-state tuition. Big enough school to switch majors if needed, which she did. No regrets. She might have had a chance at ND or Vanderbilt, but the tuition was just out of reach for us.

NP okay! you're talking to people who are class of 2024/25 so we just did this and are aware of the applications. (GU's is not on common app, but the application is pretty similar). If you're not hyped for GU, don't apply. But my advice is to spread the apps out.. getting two in early is not hard. But if you're full pay and are well over 1500 with great GPA, then BC is usually a lock from a feeder.

I think the "but why" was not about applying early, but why not apply early to both ND and GU since it's one of the few combos allowed under that system. If both are on the kids list. If GU isn't on the list, then don't apply, obviously.

But agree - if not applying to GU at all, then definitely don't apply early.
