Anyone use weight loss drugs for just a few pounds?

As someone who never really struggled with weight until perimenopause it was pretty amazing. It completely quieted my brain’s focus on food and I was able to remember and return to how I used to eat when I was thinner. No more unsustainable diets. Just simpler eating, smaller amounts, with minimal snacks.

And because I am tapering off slowly, maintaining those eating patterns that I’ve returned to feels easy to maintain.

My new normal is my old normal if that makes sense.

This has 100% been my experience too. No side effects, maintained an appetite. I feel like every woman in Perimenopause should have access to it if they want.

Same for me. It has also completely cleared up my complexion, something that I have spent countless hours and $$$ trying to fix.

I know individual results vary but honestly to me it's a miracle. As someone who spent 23 out of 24 hours of every day for the last fifty years thinking about my next meal and what i could eat next, it has been beyond transformative. Never on a high amount so minimal side effects.
Reached my target and I've tapered down without problems. Good luck OP.

Me too, I was never a big eater to begin with have faithfully run and done orange theory 4-5 times per week for years. I hit perimenopause and started packing on the weight. I took my first 1/2 dose over the weekend and I am down 4lbs and I don’t feel bloated and swollen anymore. I don’t even think k I’m eating less. I think it kickstarted my metabolism.

Just say you’re currently on the meds and have previously been diagnosed as overweight. It approved me with a BMI of 22.

Gross liar ^^

Yes, OP. I'm on the drugs for only 15 pounds but my doc OK'd it because I had already lost 80 on my own using keto and want to
lose 15 more before knee surgery

Np, I started on a 0.3 dose of Tirzepatide today. I am 5'6 and weigh 142 lbs. and had no issues getting the medication via a weight loss medspa. I had weight loss surgery seven years ago and had concerns because I gained 14 lbs in the last year due to a new medication and perimenopause.

Obviously, I don't know if it will work for me, but I am glad to have the option of getting back on track without being brushed off for having a lower BMI. More doctors should consider a patient's medical history instead of just denying it because of a low BMI.

My goal is to lose 10-15 lbs. The dietician said I could easily lose that in the first month and doubts I will need to be on the drug by month three.

I am using it as a means to reset my sleeve surgery.

Has anyone tapered down and remained off it for 6 months or more? Has the weight come back? I'm afraid to go off it even though I'm already at my goal weight.

I stopped and the weight came back over time. I am now back up and started again last week. Had to shop around and find a company I can live with for the long run in terms of cost. I will keep taking it at small maintenance dose when I am at goal weight.

Those of you that get it at a medspa, how much do you pay monthly for a low dose?

I pay $860.

Unrelated to cost but I'm convinced they alter the scale so lower bmi clients weigh more and can qualify. I was 148 lbs there but 141 at home. No way there's a seven pound difference 🙄

Lol, the lady at the spa *told* me the scale was 5 lbs heavier than actual weight! But even at that, I weighed in at 22 BMI and they gave it to me.

I paid $675 for one month of compounded tirzepatide. The price for compounded semaglutide is $299/mo. I only stayed with the spa for one month before moving to an online pharmacy for less than half the cost. I did like the experience of going to the spa to weigh in and get my injection, but the cost savings is worth it to me to go on my own from here.

People do all sorts of things with risks for vanity reasons (including major surgeries!). You can think its vain and silly but I don't get the anger about this particular one. The medications and compounding pharmacies have been around a long time - this isn't cheap surgery in a back alley of mexico, its known drugs with known profiles

Willow does Rx for non BMI reasons

Compounding drugs are not approved by FDA. There is no way to know how safe (or effective) they are. These drugs have their one risk as well. They have a lot of impurities in them.

“Impurities”? Compounding pharmacies aren’t a free-for-all. Most of the responses against clearly don’t have any experience with them. I mean, don’t take them if you don’t want to but drop the judgement.
Being overweight/obese also has a lot of side effects. Only you can decide if it’s worth the trade off.

The impurities are part of the drug not the compounding pharmacies. It is clear you have no understanding of how drugs are manufactured. Ignore is a bliss.

Lol.

I worked on compounding pharmacy issues for YEARS, including negotiating the federal legislation to regulate them.

To say impurities are part of the "drug" (its called an active pharmaceutical ingredient, or API) and never part of the process of compounding is just an abject lie.

Ethical, high quality compounders can play important roles in healthcare delivery. Many involved in compounding GLP-1s are not ethical, nor high quality, especially the state regulated 503A facilities, but the 503B facilities as well. Overseas suppliers are not always great and frequently forge certificates of analysis, etc. that accompany the sales of the bulks. Sterile compounding raises risks of quality issues substantially. Self-dosing these medications has also proven to be highly problematic for a large number of patients who either intentionally or accidentally overdose themselves on GLP1s...something managed by branded autoinjectors. There are also a number of counterfeit GLP1s coming in from many, many places.

I work with medical associations and the FDA for a living. None of our physicians would ever recommend use of a compounded GLP1 and most major professional and patient societies have recommended against their use. Compounding of these drugs at all is due to some very creative, unethical skirting of the absolute outskirts of the law...the laws were drafted to prevent exactly what these companies are doing.

How much did you lose on the one month of tirzepatide? Depending on how much I lose, I may switch to something cheaper too. I want to get back down to 130 and then do whatever I need for maintenance.

In addition to "altered scales," a friend told me that a doctor she went to made her two inches shorter so she would qualify.
