I think you should try to manage your anxiety. Phones should be put away during the school day. You are harming your kids education by your inability to set phone limits.

If you are so keen on limits, why don’t you take away your own kids phone? Don’t take my kids away.

Then I would have to parent and I'd rather the county does that for me.

Your kid being on their phone disrupts the educational experience for all kids.

No not really. It just harms the education of kids using their phone who would find something else to distract them if phones weren't an option?.

It actually harms all kids because cell phone use frustrates the teacher and causes them to spend time on cell phone use rather than on more productive activities. Valuable class time is lost every single day because the teacher is wasting time trying to manage kids using their phones. Even if your kid has straight As, they are learning less than private school kids where there is a strict cell phone policy

I have parental controls on my kids phone so all but making emergency calls is disabled during school hours.

Agree this type of policy is unnecessary. Kids who don't value their education will find something else to distract them. I'm more concerned that teachers would have to spend half the class time trying to enforce this policy for 2-3 kids who can't stop watching tiktok instead of teaching the kids who are there to learn.

Parents here are clearly checked out. Kids can go on all the social media, youtube and more on their chromebooks. So, you take away the phone and they just use the computers. Its not about valuing education.

If you value education, advocate for better curriculums, higher level classes, textbooks and more.

Nah, it's about valuing education. Kids who are there to learn aren't going to TikTok or even have social media accounts. Most of this stuff is blocked anyway. You really need to find a new hobby.

Its NOT blocked as my child showed me how to get on it. So, keep dreaming. Plenty of work arounds. Spend more time with your kids and stop lecturing others on how to raise theirs.

You need to stop posting. You’re completely delusional.

You are delusional. You are on social media and a phone complaining about it. Those things are not blocked on MCPS computers or maybe your kids ar too young to figure it out or you are not in MCPS.

I haven’t posted once from a phone. You are clearly projecting as someone who constantly replies to every single post you disagree with… while at the same time telling others to stop posting and pay attention to their kids. Pot meet kettle.

Whichever side you are on, I’m guessing a ban will happen sooner rather than later.
LA public schools recently banned cell phones. NYC public schools is about to come out with the same announcement. These 2 school districts are the 2 largest in the US so if their families can adapt, so can we. The surgeon general has also come out and said social media is harming kids. We can stick our heads in the sand or go along with prevailing evidence. Do we still want to be a school district at the forefront of education or not. Do we want to put kids first or assuage the anxiety of parents?

Putting kids first is letting parents decide. There is a need for some kids who have to communicate with parents. Your kids may be in no activities and get a bus so its no big deal, but others of us encourage our kids interests and have no bus. There are no pay phones at school.

Who is presenting the petition to ban phones across DMV to whom? And when?

DP-seek help. I don’t mean this flippantly either. You continue to post and continue to repeat yourself…you’re hellbent on cellphone usage and “parenting” while you yourself won’t log off DCUM to post and seemingly neglect your own kids based on your own gauge of good parenting. Nice excuse of “they aren’t home… put your own kids in activities.” No… you sound unstable at best.

Front office allows kids to call home. Enough about your kids activities. Parents figured it out for decades before cellphones and even pay phones. You can too.

No, they don’t and office closes when school ends. On an emergency sure, but not for something like pick me up later.

I used to be an attendance secretary… yes they do. Your kid will know before everything shuts down. They also will be able to inform you. You seem like such a scared adult. Life existed before cell phones. Breathe.

No smartphones. Flip phones only. Problem solved.

They can access social media too on today's flip phones. Families need to be the ones controlling the phone settings and placing restrictions. Let the schools teach (if they even do that anymore).

Letting parents decide is usually a bad idea. As some parents put their needs ahead of their kids - just as you are doing
