Apparently it was supposed to run last night - there's a teaser if you goto http://www.wjla.com/onyourside/ it will runn automatically. I wanted to see it so I emailed WJLA and got a response from Ross McLaughin saying it did not run last night. |
Ross McLaughlin- HA! what a joke, isnt he the ambulance chaser who does 7 on your side. This should be good. |
It will be on 5PM today on channel 7. My guess it will be a hack piece on Dr. Alalouf - which really sucks. I'm not sure whether I will or won't send my kids to him again - but no one deserves those types of stories. |
I really don't know where to begin. I am saddened by all the judgemental comments by those of you who are scared and unsure, but really have no basis for your venom. I have been in the dental field for 20+ years. Pediatric, Orthodontic, General. Guess what.......you could ask a number of dentist for an opinion and get a different one from all of them! Teaching methods, Continuing education, State of the Art equipment. All these things can lead to a decision of treatment. How many of you posting such negative words have amalgam (silver) fillings in your mouth? Amalgam has been debated for years based on the mercury content. Should your dentist who put amalgam in your mouth be reported to the board. Some would say yes. Some still "slug amalgam" all day long because that's what the insurance will pay for...bottom line.
It is a know fact in dentistry, no matter the age of the patient, some things are unknown until the tooth is opened up. An x-ray is only one part of diagnosis. "Baby teeth" hold the space for permanent teeth and need to remain in the mouth until the normal eruption pattern takes place. If Dr. A kept watch on too many teeth, decay could spread and result in severe infection not only in the tooth, but through out the body. Parents need to be there for their children, but also should be honest that sometimes based on behavior or just rampant decay, a child needs to have treatment under anesthesia. Can you imagine the scene of a wiggly, crying child, and Dr. A having to use a spinning drill, and many sharp instruments on a child that is scared? Parents usually make it worse by being in the room. BE HONEST. Also, parents, how many of you put your child to bed with milk or juice in their bottle? This is the worst thing you could do.........a child who goes to bed with a bottle should only have water in the bottle. Maybe you should hold yourself accountable for your childs dental health. As for those of you so quick to list names of other offices you LOVE.........don't kid yourself........I guarantee they have all had situations that could put them in the same situation. Today everyone wants to pretend they know more about dentistry than the DDS ...too much surfing the net and and gossiping with your friends and you are ready to crucify a man, his family, and his staff. I went to the pediatric dds office in Montgomery Village and was greeted by his DOG! How is that possisble.....do you think OSHA would approve? Does that mean we should all rant and rave about the potential of germs from his dog in what should be a sterile environment? As a member of the dental community, I will continue to support Dr. A and his practice and suggest before you jump ship to a bettter place, you may want to call the board of dental examiners, and go ask the office for a tour.....especially the sterilization area before you make your decision. |
PP, your email is insulting. As if we are a bunch of housewives "gossiping" and ruining a man's reputation. The MD Dental Board issued an extensive ruling saying he put patients at risk and did unnecessary work. Dr. A chose not to respond. So we are not "crucifying" him; he has not given us ANY facts to consider and to weigh. He may have had his reasons not to respond, but what are we supposed to do? Just trust that he MUST have been unfairly judged and that the Dental Board experts got every single case wrong? These are our children we are talking about.
You are right that no dentist is perfect (or anyone else). If I knew about a dangerous condition at another office I would likewise avoid it. If you know of some, why don't you inform the Dental Board. In fact, I think you have an obligation to do so. What is the name of the Dentist who has a dog? Surely, you agree that subjecting children to general anesthesia is a risk, and should be done only when absolutely necessary and when the evidence is clear that it is needed. (I am sure it easier to treat a child when he/she is knocked out, but that is not the point. Many pediatric dentists just deal with it; that is their job). I am sure dentists can diagnose things differently, but I would hope that when you are talking about putting small children under anesthesia, you are in the situation that there is really no doubt that it is needed, not a gray area -- for example, whether a filling was necessary. The rest of your post is likewise insulting, and frankly, not at all relevant to the issue. What exactly is your point? That we are bad parents? And BTW, I am sure Dr. A thanks you for continuing this post. |
Here's the WJLA piece that aired this evening...

To 19:12----I am not suggesting you are a bad parent. What I am suggesting is that too many people take the side of the media. I am sure Dr. A has an attorney who has advised him to stay quiet. Really, after reading all these negative comments, what could he possibly say that would convince you or others? Those that do have their children in his practice and believe in him and his treatment will have to band together to support him.
I do not take children and anesthesia lightly.......but I also understand that there are MD's providing anesthesia, not Dr. A, and I would certainly think if they felt he was treating patients unnecessarly, don't you think the medical staff at Shady Grove would have come forward? And, BTW........I do not have children at his practice. I have nothing to gain from this but to point out there are 2 sides and sometimes the truth doesn't come out due to the litigous society we all live in. |
but you are a bunch of "gossiping housewives"........that all need jobs! |
Ross McLaughlin -- why don't you interview parents of patients who have had Dr. Ophir Alalouf do procedures in his office and at Shady Grove that were happy he caught their cavities early and were satisfied with the work he did! Why don't you get a panel of other DDS, pediatric and adult, and get their feedback and then present that to the public? Instead you chose to decimate Dr. A's character without interviewing any supportive parents of Dr. Alalouf and his practice or other peers except for the one doctor who speaks poorly of Dr. A to his patients. Why don't you look into THAT doctor's 36 history. I bet there are complaints to the State board!

I found this thread while searching for info on Kids Teeth after hearing the story on TV today. I too have kids who are patients there. In fact, my youngest just had 4 baby teeth filled on Monday. I was concerned at the amount of cavities, but did see how "sticky" they were at the exam...usually a sign of decay. The bigger question to me is why was the suspension not mentioned in the letter we were mailed that stated the "family time" and vacation? That is the biggest red flag of all. Fraud. You bet. Legal? Apparently so. Looks like we might be looking for a new dentist.

To 19:12, You are kidding yourself if you think the dental board is a panel of "experts". Check out the histories of the board and its officers!
|
WJLA said in its piece that they would post the board order on their website-has anyone been able to locate it? If so, would you mind posting a link? |
Scroll down to the bottom of the page of the news story at http://www.wjla.com/news/stories/0408/515726.html and the link is on the right. It's http://acc-tv.com/sites/wjla/news/stories/videos/consentorderdralalouf.pdf |
To 20:33 - I was told that Dr. A was told what to say in the letter by his lawyer. Not sure if this is true, but if you think your care was good, why not address this with Dr. A or Dr. M themselves? |
Just a theory here, but I would be more concerned with exactly how well prepared some parents are to take care of their young children's mouths? |
