My son was found to have more than 10 cavities. I was told that he was not behaving appropriately and that the only way to repair the cavities was via general anesthesia.
As a physician, I have seen too many undesirable long term consequences of general anesthesia, consequences that are very difficult to evaluate. For example, subtle changes in problem solving abilitty, speed to make mathematics calculation, reading comprehension speed.
I found differences in opinion regarding the nature of the cavities and their importance and what to do about them.
Eventually my son was treated very well without genereal anesthesia.
I took him outside the US, where work was completed without any anesthesia. It took more time and patience.

We also love Amy Light's practice in Potomac.

You had to go all the way outside the country to treat him? Why?

Our children having been seeing Dr. Alalouf for 4 years. We were referred to his practice by another dentist who found 11 cavities at our (then) 3 year old's first dental visit, and was hesitant to treat them himself (his practice sees mostly adults). Dr. Alalouf was wonderful. He confirmed the presence of the cavities on the original x-ray, and then took another of his own. Rather than scheduling several visits to do the fillings (he said kids don't generally tolerate more than 3 at a time), he suggested using general anesthesia at Shady Grove. He was absolutely wonderful with us and our daughter. He was very sympathetic to her situation, and showed nothing but compassion in her care. Contrary to one of the above comments, she recovered quickly (within hours), and has never suffered from any learing/comprehension/math/reasoning delays. She continues to be a happy, healthy and intelligent child. She also has no fear of dentists because of the wonderful environment Dr. Alalouf and his team have created.

Does anyone know if the allegations against him are true? Is he simply suspended while they investigate, or has their already been an investigation, and the suspension is his punishment?

I got a copy of the order. Dr Alalouf definitely has been suspended until August 30 (effective May 2) and then on probation for 3 years. After he returns, he has to allow a reviewer to come in to check up on him. The order has very specific findings detailing what happened with each particular patient, going back to 2001. Dr Alalouf apprently agreed to the suspension in lieu of a hearing and signed off on the order. According to the order Dr Madani will be seeing the patients and Alalouf isn't allowed to be present at the office for the suspension period.

I've been debating about whether to let Dr Madani continue to see my kid. On one hand, I imagine they will be ultra-careful with care, esp. relating to cavities. And we personally have never had any problems with Dr Madani and love our hygienist. But, on the other hand, I don't think we should support Dr. Alalouf's practice by giving him our business. I think we'll be finding another practice soon.

I agree with 9:48. I am an anesthesiologist. Avoid general anesthesia in kids as much as possible. Many cases can be done with light sedation.

My son recently had his first dental appt and we were very pleased with the dentist and her staff:

Deepali Bhanot, DDS - Pediatric Dentist
Kids Dental Clinic 24 Executive Park Court Map it
Germantown, MD 20874
Ph: 301-528-8685

I believe they are moving their office soon--I don't have the new location but I believe it will still be in Germantown.

We found Dr. Bhanot by checking the list of dentists on our insurance plan against reviews we read on www.doctoroogle.com.

I have heard many experiences like this for the past couple of years. I wound up swicthing to another pediatric dentist a year ago (before I had any negative experiences) and I have never looked back. We switched to Dr. J (Dr. Golnar Jahanimar) who is around the corner from Kids Teeth, LLC. She is so sweet, very smart and most of all, my kids absolutely adore her!

Her number is: 3019900892

My children have seen Dr. Alalouf for the past three years and have only positive experiences. Please know there are TWO sides to every story so for those of you who believe everything you read, shame on you!!!!

I agree with posting at 16:06. There are TWO sides to every story!

This is a public site. Keep the swearing off-line! It's one thing to state you are unhappy with Dr. Alalouf or had a bad experience but to state profanities on a public site is childish. GROW UP people.

There are two sides to every story. With that being said, the swearing is childish and that person should not BE a parent. GROW UP is right. It is unfortunate that Dr. A has been suspended, he is a stand up guy and I truly believe that this is the same group of boring desperate housewives that hate their life so much that they create their own drama. Kudos to you...you've got an Oscar. Dr. A is gentle, caring and extremely humble. we've been with the practice far before it is what it became, which is a haven for kids!

The three posts mostly consisting of childish profanity were all from a single poster and have been removed since they contributed nothing of value to this thread.

Of course there is two sides to a story, but I would not compromise my child in this situation.
After reading the document it was very upsetting. There are so many wonderful and honest perdiatric dentists in the area. If I was currently going to this practice I would switch in a heartbeat. There must be siome truth to this.
