Spring break related for sure.

Wanted to add: no one is keeping their kids home over a drug deal gone wrong that didn’t even occur on school grounds.

Where did you read it was a drug deal gone wrong? Just curious as I haven't seen that reported.

I didn’t. I put two and two together based on the article though. It said something about cocaine distribution in regards to the shooter.

That was unrelated though, a different incident. You are casting baseless aspersions on a dead teenager.

No, the shooter was the drug dealer. Why else would a freshman be hanging with someone like that?

My dd goes to Westfield and the school is full of police this morning. It seems they are still looking for the shooter. It says they all knew each other. I feel like school should have been closed for the day. Would you go pick your kid up if there was a chance there was an armed kid at their school who had just killed someone? Its so awful. What a tragedy.

OP, now you know. The shooter wasn’t even a student at Westfield. And he surrendered last night.

I don't know if you can assume they were "hanging out."

The phrase "wasn't even a student at Westfield" is awfully dismissive. He attended Westfield for several years, was probably kicked out and then sent to Mountain View where he "recently" (december?) graduated.

All the police have said is that the two teens were outside the hotel (which some on here say is more extended living for people without apartments). Then the suspect pulled up, got out of his car, there was a fight, and he pulled out a gun and shot at them.

Westfield parent.

I am relieved to hear the shooter has been caught and no longer at large. What I would still like to know is whether the shooting occurred with the 14 year olds walking home from a bus stop?

Its not really clear. Someone said the hotel was right near a bus stop. One of the kids might have been living in the hotel, so they could have walked there after getting off the bus. Or they could have skipped school that day and just been hanging out.

Sounds like what I said - drug deal.

I don’t think so. There is no FCPS bus stop near a freaking hotel.

Kids live there. It's an extended stay and the county houses families in those sometimes as opposed to a traditional shelter.

That doesn’t mean there is a bus stop there.

Sounds like gang violence.

There are townhome communities on either side of the Sonesta ES where this happened.

Doesnt mean there isn’t a bus stop near there either. As PP mentioned, there are townhome communities on either side of the hotel. Perhaps students are dropped at a corner and walk by the hotel. I don’t know where there are bus stops in that area but don’t think you can definitively say the victim wasn’t walking from a school bus.
