I think First Lady is a position where you have a platform and can actually do a lot of good, by promoting awareness of different issues.

The only message she ever sent was "I don't care" and she half-assed her First Lady duties. Which is actually fine, making "First Lady" a job seems so silly in this day and age. But doing nothing with the role isn't admirable, either.

She was supposed to have an anti-bullying platform, which was rich, given her husband. She did tend to look great, unlike the rest of this crew.

It's hard to think of a good platform for her, really, that wouldn't be hypocritical. Immigration would be a natural fit for her, as an immigrant, but she obviously can't touch that. Maybe the arts, as someone who workedi n fashion, but you don't get the sense that she likes/enjoys the arts (as Jackie K did). Laura Bush did literacy, but I don't sense she's much of a reader. Maybe something like youth sports would have been a good fit (she did seem very into that tennis pavilion...).

Yeah, and Michelle already did gardening/farmer's markets.

I'm with the PP - let's get rid of the whole First Lady schtick. I remember Howard Dean's wife shocking some interviewer by saying she had no plans to quit her job to be First Lady. The whole thing is antiquated, sexist, and further serves to perpetuate the idea of an American royal family. If we treated our politicians like people who we elect as our employees we'd be much better off, IMO.

No, it's not that she's 'battling' the natural aging process. She's trying to pretend that she's not subject to it. I'm 58 and recognized long ago that what worked for me in my 20/30s is not what works for older me. As we get older, we might apply the same amount of makeup but it's got to be done differently and with a different color palette. When was the last time we could really see her eyes? No matter the treatments she's had, her eyes WILL appear smaller as she ages. She needs to stop using so much dark shadow/liner. If she'd use lighter colors on her face and in her hair, she'd not only look better, she'd look less 'worn hard, put away wet'. Pulling her hair back a bit (like Cindy's) would stop dragging her face down - not to mention that the weave just doesn't look good. Ugh.





She ought to take a look at Cindy Crawford's makeup and hair.
