If VRSC could only get accepted into a top tier league like ECNL or GA on the merits of what they have actually accomplished as a club, they’d be several years, at best, from getting in. They hired MJ away from FCV a couple of years ago. Probably more money and a very easy job at a club where no one is expecting much. You don’t have to be Sir Alex Ferguson to realize that as a soccer club, you need to be in a better league than NCSL or EDP if you want to be able to able to attract more/better players and be seen as a “serious” option for those players and their parents.
Evergreen is a nice facility and the improvements that they’ve done were much needed. Now you need better coaches and someone who is well connected and understands the landscape of youth soccer. With FCV still practicing at the Sportsplex, CC and crew were around often enough for conversations but even without that, most of the FCV guys had known each other for many years so MJ could call CC anytime and start the conversation. What ultimately convinced CC to agree to the move, I don’t know but I’m sure money and seemingly a lack on the part of TSJ to make field space in Loudoun County a serious priority were probably on that list. Both of which I’m certain Revolution leveraged in their pitch to CC. “Oh, by the way, we’re not going to rent field space to FCV after this year. Hope you guys have a plan!” Money and connections make the world go round. They always have and they always will. If you read any of the GA announcements for the new clubs that they accepted for next year, you’ll find that the one about Revolution is very unlike the others. No history of player development, no excellence in coaching, no proven record of accomplishments on the field, etc. It was vision and infrastructure. Raise your hand if you believe that. You can be certain that they’re hoping to cannabalize those existing FCV teams and then fill in the gaps with players from other clubs. The Fairfax Virginia Union announcement was a potential gift from the soccer gods to Revolution. Only time will tell how many of those players they can convince to come over but there are enough players/parents in this area who a chasing an ECNL or GA badge that they’ll have no problem filling rosters up. And then, if there are enough players/parents who don’t know any better, they’ll continue to fill up GA2, GA3, GA4, teams, etc. because $$$. How good their “real” GA teams will be remains to be seen but congratulations Revolution, at least you can now market to all the players who wanted an ECNL spot but couldn’t get it. |
Yes with time I see VRSC might be at the top, but I don’t know if they have mlsn. Which makes me favor syc due to having already more than successful mlsn program. Vrsc has the money to do what they want, but I must agree that they will truly reach success 5+ years from now. |
+10000 on the BP comment as well, the only piece they truly needed to complete the process. |
Well, I will give some kiddos to VRSC for the growth they have had in just 5 1/2 years especially when the big investors didn’t come until 2 years ago. When you look at the fields they started on and the small coaching staff they started with there has been progress. Some of the older boys teams are winning games in tournaments against ECNL and MLS teams m, so there is some talent there.
Any business or club takes more than a couple of years to show the growth most of you seem to think they should have already. I hope they reach all of those levels and show you all what they can achieve. Envy and jealousy are a sad things to see. |
They obviously are not “there” yet, but the contrast between the clear vision and substantial progress that has been made at VRSC and the sh!+ shows currently unfolding at several other notable NOVA clubs could not be more stark. |
Not really jealousy when BP is known for the USYNT connection and CC was known for playing favorites good or bad. |
How come VRSC hasn't made public announcements of coaching assignments? |
Because they’re too busy focusing on their “vision” and “infrastructure” that got them into the GA? |
They did a couple weeks ago on IG. It did say it was part 1, not sure if there is more coming or if each is coaching 2 teams. |
It's conflicting though. Publicly shows JJ on staff, and in parent meetings they did not mention her. |
They're successful every but the field. |
Some teams are successful on the field. 09 Boys black 2nd in their EDP division last year and this year and finalist in 2 tournaments this year. That is just this past year, they have other tournament champions and finalist in the past 4 years. This is just one that I am familiar with, I am sure you can look up other teams and see success in tournaments and league play. I know there will be haters but these players need to be acknowledged for their hard work and success. |
Why would you want to mention her? |
09 would be playing in USYS is they were any good. Finalists in a random bracket of a tournament does not equal successful. How are the girls doing? |
LOL. They’re *terrible*. |
