How Much Do a Kid's Looks Factor Into Admissions Decisions?

So that when you're sitting around the table discussing whether to admit little Nicholas, everyone can be sure they're thinking of the same Nicholas.

So they can see if little Nicholas is visibly diverse, attractive, or if little Nicholas was the kid who bit another kid during the playdate. Duh.

This thread is so amusing. I'd remind you all that those making admissions decisions are human. Emotion and "gut feelings" influence decisions made by humans. Every admissions professional I've encountered to date seems professional and ethical. I expect that admission decisions are not consciously influenced by looks, but personal appearance impacts humans. That doesn't necessarily mean that good looking kids get all the breaks. A heavy plain looking admissions person is not going to be keen on the child of a trophy mom. A preppy admissions person isn't going to be keen on a grudge look.

Most schools have open houses where you meet the decision makers before any personal interview. My advice is to try to mirror, to some extent, the appearance of the decision makers.

Looking at our graduating class I would say yes. Pretty nice looking group.

Young children are attractive by nature. I am at big 3 with several kids and plenty of us not attractive and getting less so by the day! I think verbal, polite kids do best in the admissions process....please and thank you and questions answered fully....

+1. It's called evolution. Rich and/or powerful guys marry sexy chicks, breed, and send offspring to Big 3 schools.

Studies show that penis size really doesn't matter when it comes to admissions.

The predominant ethnicities in the DC area are not, on average, going to produce great looking offspring at the rate you’ll see in some other parts of the country. In general kids, in this area are destined to be comparatively short with dark hair and brown eyes with some pasty gingers in the mix. The wealth in this area helps when it comes to style and (hopefully later in life) cosmetic surgery, but anyone who thinks that this area produces great looking kids needs to get our more often.

Agreed. But the point is that kids/families at the Big 3 and other private schools skew attractive.

I'm curious: What do you see as "the predominant ethnicities in the DC area"? And why do you think those ethnicities are not going to produce attractive children?

Kids in this area are as attractive as kids anywhere else. The reasons the adults aren't as attractive has more to do with style, dress, make-up, hairstyle, etc. This doesn't affect how the kids look. And the kids at our private are definitely very attractive.

Studies show good looking people are generally more successful than ugly people. So it should come as no surprise that the offspring of successful parents are good looking and populate the private schools.

People ( kids, parents, grandparents) in this area are smaller than people in much of the west and Midwest. For boys in particular, height is a big factor in attractiveness.

I agree with the point on ethnicities. I just got back from Ireland -- everyone looks pretty much the same and fairly decent looking because they have an homogenous culture.

Take Minnesota -- good looking people with blond hair/blue eyes. DC on the other hand has more mixed looks -- not as pure/good looking. But, that sounds creepy as I write it.

And those sexy chicks have kids with the handsome mail man, but the rich old jerk does not know that
