Nextdoor is the ultimate echo chamber. People who spend too much time there are likely to be caught off guard when Peterson comes in third. I think a vote for Jackson may be more effective. |
Jackson has made too many recent mistakes and whether it’s fair or not, people see her as a Wilson crew member. The city needs a fresh start. Peterson’s the answer. |
|
Peterson seems pretty disconnected from Alexandria voters. And I don’t think I want retired real estate developer as Mayor!
“After conducting a $30,000 polling study on various issues that involve the city, I was surprised that the issue of crime was not higher on people’s agenda,” Peterson said. “There was somewhat of a feeling as though, ‘Well, if my car wasn’t stolen or I wasn’t personally robbed, it’s not high on my agenda.’ Well, I can assure you that the fact overall crime was up 30% in 2023 and car thefts were up 58% will be a major mandate on my agenda.” He also says, if elected, he’ll take on the job full-time and donate his salary to the Alexandria Police Foundation. https://www.alxnow.com/2024/04/05/alexandria-mayoral-candidate-steven-peterson-is-a-political-newcomer-and-hes-coming-out-swinging/ |
| I'm voting for Peterson. |
fyi Peterson was opposed to the arena monstrosity from the beginning. I don't love everything about the guy, but I sure as hell am not voting for Gaskins or Jackson. It's Peterson or a write-in for me. |
Agree that Nextdoor is awful. But it was a long thread, with a lot of people chiming in on their mayoral vote. Most people (100+) said they were not voting for Gaskins or Jackson. Don't vote for someone because you think the lesser known new guy has a small chance. |
What about your post is supposed to make him sound bad? You realize you did the opposite. |
+1 |
I wouldn’t say he has a chance based on a Nextdoor thread where the loudest voices are. He has no name recognition, missed the debate, and has had far less visibility during this campaign than the other two. I know he had an accident but he needs to be doing more than the others to get his message out, and instead he’s doing less. He’s toast. Unfortunately he and Jackson will split the anti-arena, anti-Wilsonite vote and Gaskins will likely win handily. |

Is anyone getting bombarded by election junk mail? It's unreal. I'm getting 2-3 pieces a day, every single day. For over a month.
The loudest voices are the ones I will NOT be voting for. |

If you're on the fence and you care about the moral compass of city leaders, here are the ones that don't believe in human rights or believe ordinary Palestinians are deserving of safety.

When did the government of Alexandria, VA acquire authority over US foreign policy? |
+1 |
They didn't, but this is a very international city, and foreign policy issues personally affect many residents. I'm not saying a vote like this was necessary. But if one was held, I think it's gross that many council members voted in opposition. |
This resolution has zero relevance to what local government is empowered to do for citizens. You prefer symbolism over substance. |
