IL for CS. UC Bolder and U of Utah for merit + outdoorsy. Florida bcs there's some grandparent thing?

UVA really far far down on list of OOS public schools here these days. So much so I just inquired with friends about it and nobody had any interest.

I’m in Manhattan and it is very desirable in our private school

I'm from California and literally had never heard of UVA before moving to the East Coast for college in 2000.[b]

No one out west is considering UVA, unless you have some sort of familial ties to the DMV area or the school itself.

I’m from Virginia and had never heard of any of the UC schools except Berkeley and UCLA before reading DCUM.

That’s a good comparison. UC Merced is not known on the east coast and UVA is not known on the west coast.

I get it is a good school and price of tuition can’t be beat if you are instate.

But I don’t get the obsession from the MD crowd.

Is it just since they are influenced by the VA parents?

You mean other than it is one of the top schools in the country?

No. 68 Californians in the freshman class. 276 total undergraduates. 560 including graduate, law, med etc.

68=283 in the UVA booster world. Even the entering class amount is higher than the total.

…..Another delusion booster.

Why did they come here to attend UVA? They should stay at UCLA or UC Berkeley to save their OOS tuition.

That’s easy. Most wouldn’t go to UVA if they got accepted to either instate school.

Couldn’t get into UCB or UCLA. It’s really hard even for in-state kids. Significantly easier to get in as a transfer after doing two years at CC - 35%’ish acceptance rate.

So yeah, 68 Californians very likely from well-to-do families who didn’t want to grind it out in CC.
