The movie “Book smart” addresses the actual ridiculousness of hiding what college you get into to “save feeling”. ffs
It’s so funny when the “smart girls” find out the athletes/artists/stoners are going to better colleges and they realize they wasted 4 years of their life. |
Imagine being so miserable that you're mad and offended that kids who worked hard, applied for and had the fortune of getting into a college they're excited about want to wear a sweatshirt to school sharing their good news. No wonder the kids are messed. The adults that surround them, like you, are completely insufferable. |
W's have so many fun traditions! |
| y'all get so upset by worrying about others. try enjoying life and being happy for some people. |
| This is only so triggering for you because you put way way way way WAY too much focus and emphasis on college admissions. If you had perspective, you wouldn’t be losing your minds about this. |
|
My DCs both did this - one at a W and one at a private school. It wasn't a school event - just something the kids self organized or was influenced by social media.
In my high school (a local so called Big 3 school) the tradition was to post rejection letters in the hallway. And during morning homeroom of the whole class the Dean would announce what schools people had been accepted at. Now THAT was brutal. |

Who is the snowflake now!
If you look down on yourself (or your kids) because Montgomery college vs Ivy, it’s on you. |
| I saw a 60+ year old wearing a Michigan sweatshirt today. Should he not be allowed to because it might make OP’s child upset??? |
This is a good thing. If you are not thrilled where you got -- so what that is where you are going so start owning it. You start your life there -- maybe you transfer; maybe you love it. Who knows but pretending it is not happening is a good step on the road to failure. |
Hogwarts then |

My son was accepted into all of the schools he applied. However on May 1 he wore his "Scott's Tots" t-shirt instead of his future university.
Lots of alternatives out there if you don't want to play. |
People are having a surprising amount of difficulty distinguishing between (1) an individual person choosing to wear a specific sweatshirt, and (2) an official school event where people are supposed to wear specific sweatshirts. |
It’s not an official school event! It’s organized by the senior class, not the school administration. And no one has to participate. |
Are you punished if you opt out? No. It's an optional thing that the seniors themselves chose to organize and do. If something's not for you, and you're not obligated to do it, then what's the big freaking deal? |
It's organized by the senior class? Like, a bunch of seniors said, "Hey, let's do this on May 1!"? Or is it an SGA event? |
