Yeah.. I know a few kids who didn't got into any T21 LACs in RD. such as Haverford, Colgate, Carleton.. but got into Colby. I don't know what algorithm Colby uses. Also, Colby doesn't publish CDS so we dont know how many internationals? |
+100 I love this description. And let’s be clear they are totally gaming this by making it free for all to apply. |
| Colby is a joke! Who can trust such an institution. |
And, No Supplemental Essay! No Supplemental Essay! Free + No Supplemental Essay! Of course anyone who knows about it would apply, why not! They take 60% of their class on ED. |
| Is JMU better? |
The Colby troll has resurfaced! Welcome back! Your uninformed and unsubstantiated opinions have been missed! |
Gaming what exactly? Rankings? Most don’t include admissions rates as a factor. |
10% of the class of 2027 was international. They release these stats every year on their website. https://afa.colby.edu/apply/college-profile/ |
We are all awed by your son’s Colby experience. Sounds idyllic |
So you are basically saying Colby is the equivalent of a fancy prep school. I think your kid needs to get out of his wealthy bubble and experience real life |
You have typed words seemingly with no point. Do you have a point? |
| Colby accepted DC , though DC chose to attend another NE SLAC. One thing we really appreciated about the application process was the opportunity to upload unlimited numbers of papers. DC didn’t have to write a fawning essay but was able to upload some of their best work. I think it probably helped, and it was also pain free. I sense Colby may have decided to leave it up to the individual to submit extra work, and favor those who do make this (minimal) effort. Kids we know there love it, though DC did not feel the love. |
|
Williams and Middlebury don’t require supplement essays, either. They rank higher with similar cost, why don’t they get as many applications?
You can hate the school all you want, Colby hater. There are apparently plenty of students who want to be there. |

My DD is at Colby and she absolutely loves it.
She met really greats friends there and academic is pretty demanding but not competitive. Counseling for mental health and other support system is well established. I hope some trolls in this thread do not scare away who is considering Colby. Campus is gorgeous, very large for a small school. My DD fell in love when we visited. Kids are very friendly. Dining hall food is pretty good, especially seafood. |
The question is not what percentage of enrolled students are international, but rather how many applicants. I’d guess 40-50%, but we’ll never know because Colby will never tell us. |
