My kids are happy, refined, drug free, and excellent students in engineering and tech at JR. And they can always tell which ones are from the big 3.

Much more diverse than the racially segregated communities and thus public schools in several suburbs.

You choose to live in a homogeneous neighborhood. You choose to send your kids to a homogeneous private school. You are not choosing diversity..

Sidwell isn't homogeneous, fwiw. It is very diverse, both economically and racially.

Feeding. Trolls.

PP. it’s true. But not worth it. B/c they don’t care. OP and the gang are soul sucking trolls.

Tons of economic diversity, all the way from upper middle class to upper class

Someone who clearly has no exposure to the Sidwell community.

At $50k/yr?

I don’t think diversity means what you think it does.

This thread makes me so happy my kids don't go to private school. Everyone is justifying spending all that $$ to ensure that their kids make a lot of money and are in the right social class. Those values are not my values so I am extremely glad my kids aren't a part of it.

Those aren’t the reasons we sent our kid to private. We don’t even look at report card.

Agreed. The 50K my child's private cost is worth it to me to avoid the 3 plus fights per week about him not receiving his IEP accommodations. It literally drained the life out of me, even with an advocate

Or the attention and validation my shy DD got that helped her become a leader in her class. She is now happy and confident thanks to those teacher that paid attention and worked with her. She was in public before and honestly it was night and day.
But I am sure public school is fine for most kids. I just wanted more then fine and could afford it.

One of my kids goes to our local public for elementary. Does your well regarded K-8 truly provide $40,000 more in value?

No- do not go to a k-8 if you can go to Janney. You'll be mad ya did. Then you have to apply and hope you can get into a private high school.

I don't think you have any clue how much the school spends in financial aid.

For families making over $250k?

Do you have any FARMS kids? Did you ever have any Dreamers? Any kids straight from Union Station speaking only Spanish? Any homeless kids? Any kids who are medically fragile? Down Syndrome? LEVEL 2 autism? Any?

You have no true diversity.

Financially, as far as the private school going goes, this is the winning strategy if you are willing to take the risk of not getting in: several superb schools in DCPS will see your kid through K-5, and then you jump.

It is a rigorous independent school. Kids with Level 2 autism or downs would not be able to handle the daily requirements academically. Why would you want to put kids into situations they would not be able to handle?

The school chooses to limit the types of programs it offers. Many Catholic schools make room for these students. Publics do.

Don’t claim to be diverse if you choose not to be.
