Is it okay to buy/wear Balenciaga given the controversy related to children? They have apologized.

Wow. Are the police investigating?

There is nothing for the police to investigate.

This company chose to associate itself with allusions to child pornography in its ads, but allusions are not illegal, something that would in fact be upheld by the Supreme Court opinion that was left on a desk in one of the ads.

Not everything despicable is illegal.

Put it in the back of the closet for now until this blows over

All these brands are just disgusting. The cult following, the show of status, it's all grotesque consumerism. People who spend these obscene amounts of money on these everyday items are stupid AF.

I once spent money on a nice bag. Not from a designer, or even recognizable brand, but a cut or two above what I’d normally spend. The idea was to purchase one nice thing and wear it most of the time. Better for the environment, etc.. I am going to be a lot more cautious going forward. I can’t afford to spend a ton of money on something and then not be able to wear it.

I’m wondering if you’re connected with the brand. It’s simply inconceivable to me that this will “blow over”.

But you realize there are plenty of companies that make high-quality things but don't have a big name, right?

When I was trying on gowns once, I went to high end boutiques and the dresses weren't any better made that your middle of the road stuff. You are absolutely NOT paying for quality with most of these brands. You can get handmade stuff if you look harder.

For the rationalists and apologists, I have a sincere question. Do you care about this particular brand’s survival? Are you upset about cancel culture? Is this a speech rights issue for you? Do you think the allusions are acceptable?

I personally think the brand should die and a strong message should be sent, but I’m curious how others can feel so differently…

Even selling it or donating it promotes the brand. Throw away.

Okay. So what about the replica bags??

Oh please. I wore my Balenciaga boots the other day and no one batted an eye. I got way more comments a few years ago when I had a Gucci tote during some controversary about them being racist. People care for 10 minutes and then it goes away. The house will definitely not be ruined over this.

Absolutely not, in fact I've been hating on most of what they've done under the current designer (except some of the CG assist tailoring). Might as well say they have no bearing on the circles I run in anyway, but if they were to disappear I wouldn't care. (I also don't really go in for the genius of Cristóbal.)

However, this is a manufactured controversy. There is no porn in the child campaign. I'm more interested in the fact that actual adults would by these objects, way to bury the lede. The campaign with the Easter eggs, either someone in editorial went rouge or they collectively made a calculated play for q-anon eyeballs. I wouldn't kick that hornets nest myself, but I'll bring out the popcorn for it--worm brain v. Kering, evenly matched evil, IMO.

Pedo photo shoot aside, I wouldn’t wear balenciaga at any time, for any reason. Ugly clothes!
