Except there is this thing called "great weight" which refers specifically to ANCs lodging their opinion via letter or resolution, to city agencies, boards, commissions etc when there is an action in their boundaries. |
Except the city mandates it via law and public notice. Really, if you don't like it, move. I am sure you will make 6 or 7 figures in windfall on the sale of your house. |
GGW, living rent free in your head since 2007. |
Right. But ANC was created specifically as a nonpartisan office. And with good reason. It’s not supposed to set policy. One young lady just won an ANC seat saying she wanted to make the neighborhood more “pro labor.” Wut? These Gen Z activists have completely corrupted these offices which were established to help their neighbors navigate the DC bureaucracy and get overflowing trash cans serviced. If they want to stroke their egos and fill their FB pages with cool posts, then run for Council and be subject to then primary election process. |
Exactly. They have so profoundly misunderstood and screwed up the role and purpose of ANCs that there is no point in having them anymore. |
Mandates what exactly wrt ANCs reps specifically? |
It’s not the personal opinion of the ANC rep, it’s the consensus of the neighborhood. How do you not understand and distinguish an ANC as an organizing structure and an ANC rep as an individual I do not know. But it’s pretty funny how silly you sound. |
Thanks for reminding me, that was really funny. Also quite hilariously timely as that endorsement was one of the bit part characters in the Silverman OCF fiasco and he’s also an obnoxious ANC rep to boot. IIRC they picked him because he was the candidate who spouted the most pure ideology or something. It was just really funny stuff all around. |
He is still a font of unintended humor. |
So you think that advice was wise? Got it, you're as dumb as they are. Enjoy Bonds for four more years. |
He’s like an inverse Forrest Gump. I don’t know if he is unlucky or what, but I am really eager to see how much more damage to other people this guy can do as a bit player in their demise. |
This last night from the newly elected ANC Rep for Woodley Park. Is this even legal? My god, what have you people done. “If workers at your business in Woodley Park choose to unionize, this is your first and final warning: If you commit an ULP— I will move to remove your liquor license. I will use all of the powers at my disposal to fight back on behalf of the workers.” |
Nonpartisan doesn't mean agnostic on matters of policy. It means nonpartisan. What makes you think the point of the ANC is to "help neighbors navigate the DC bureaucracy"? For most of their history, the main purpose of many of them has been to ensure that the D.C. bureaucracy doesn't allow their neighbors to do anything that the ANC reps dislike. And the primary election process isn't some sacrosanct form of democracy — one reason ANCs are nonpartisan, in fact, is so that everyone can vote on who their reps should be, not just members of one political party. |
You think the point of ANC is to build consensus? Have you ever paid any attention to D.C. politics before you decided bike lanes were the Worst Thing Ever? |
No, it is not legal. In fact, it is a really stupid thing to say as that new ANC rep has basically ensured that they and their neighbors will have no ability to influence any liquor licenses for the next few years. |
