AirBnB Owners - How's Business?

At a hotel, at least you get some clean sheets and nice folded towels that look laundered.

not really, hotels are the lowest quality staffed with the lowest pay as they pay peanuts, the cleaning companies rather charge Airbnb rates to owners as their reviews rely on cleaning.

Of all the rental units we've stayed in recently, I can't recall any of them having had a spectacular cleaning job. At least at a hotel you can raise the issue and have it addressed.

Airbnb hosts send cleaners back as well, as the cleaners have an agreement to perform services

That kind of destroys the "quiet enjoyment" factor if you are having to put up with workers coming into the air bnb.

I clean my rental myself and have rave reviews for its cleanliness.

Do you confirm that the previous renters used detergent on the dishes appropriately washed the baking sheets and fry pans, etc.? This is my biggest pet peeve in a rental.

no. Most don't use those (and I can tell) but that would be weird to ask that.

Have you ever clocked how much time cleaners spend in a house/ Scary. Especially in areas where they have consistently busy "turnover" days, they have too many properties to spend adequate time at each.

Rentals are always our last resort. With hotels we get early check in, status, late check outs, room service, concierge, nice bedding, housekeeping, anything we need provided at a moment’s notice and with a smile. We feel pampered and taken care of.

Rentals are the opposite experience and far more stressful. Early checkout, late check in, cleanliness is always an issue, inferior linens and beds. Plus the element of surprise with not knowing exactly what you’re really going to get, and possibly nutjob hosts. No thanks!

Can’t tell you how many rentals I’ve been in where the plates are dirty in the cabinet and the baking sheet has dried pizza bits on it.

Hotels have begun to be cheaper and bad hosts/misrepresented properties.

We have a camera that monitors cleaners and they have agreed to spend a certain amount of time or don't get paid

Does that camera monitor anything else?

I use them all the time when I need a full house and have never had a bad experience, but if I only needed a single room in a place where hotels exist, Airbnb wouldn't even cross my mind.

It just seems strange to me that all of a sudden people are realizing using an Airbnb as a hotel isn't as good as getting a hotel. "I rented a room in some random person's house instead of staying at the Motel 6 across the street and it wasn't as good as the hotel who have literally been doing this specific business for decades."

Whoda thunk?!

You are more than welcome to let all the owners trying to rent out single rooms that after careful consideration, you're here to tell them you've "thunk" about their business model and decided it was a bad idea.

To their credit, looks like Airbnb has heard these concerns and is taking steps to address them.

Total price will show in search. Checkout requests beyond "turn off lights, throw food in the trash, lock the doors" will have to be shown before booking.
